This year’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser will take place on Friday, March 13, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the school, 361 School Road, Denver. It will benefit the Brecknock Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Tickets include a meal of spaghetti
with red sauce, with or without meatballs, plus a salad and a roll. A variety of desserts will be available for purchase at a nominal charge. The talent show is designed to put Brecknock students in the spotlight throughout the evening. “We will have singing, instrumentalists, poetry reading, artwork, magic, gymnastics, and more,” said Jenny Sensenig, one of the organizers of the event. Themed baskets that have been gathered for prizes and giveaways will include a “Mommy Needs a Break” basket, a beach basket, a book basket, a family movie basket, a wine and gourmet foods basket, a chocolate lover’s basket, a little chef’s basket, a family game night basket, a dog lover’s basket, a gardening basket, and a coffee lover’s basket. The 2019 growing season was the first for the Sprouts for Peace Garden at New Holland Mennonite Church, 18 Western Ave., New Holland. According to Dawn Ranck-Hower, pastor at the church, the produce from the garden was used first in lunches for students of the Early Learning Center (ELC), which is housed in the church. Produce was also given to ELC families for their use and distributed through the CrossNet Food Pantry. “The experience … was very positive,” said Ray Hurst, who continues to lead the project. After retiring in 2019, Hurst
Ray Hurst (left) and Dawn Ranck-Hower are looking forward to planting a new garden plot at New Holland Mennonite Church.
