GSFR Will Sponsor First Fire Camp Area Youths Are Welcome To Apply By Ann Mead Ash

This summer, shortly after school lets out, a few area youths will have the opportunity to take part in the first Garden Spot Fire Camp, sponsored by Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR). GSFR Chief Darryl Keiser said camp activities will include seeing firefighters in action and taking part in hands-on activities that will be physically rigorous and mentally challenging. During the week of Monday, June 22, to Friday, June 26, camp will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will be open to boys and girls ages 11 to 14. Camp will be held at the GSFR station, located at 339 E. Main St., New Holland; the GSFR training center on Reservoir Road; and various other locations. See Fire Camp pg 7

Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR) will hold the first Garden Spot Fire Camp this summer from June 22 through 26. The camp, which will be open to boys and girls ages 11 to 14, will include activities such as learning to handle hoses, along with classroom training. Interested students and their parents are invited to an open house at the GSFR station, located at 339 E. Main St., New Holland, on March 24.

New Holland Cub Scout Pack 148 has scheduled its annual Pinewood Derby for Saturday, Jan. 25, at Garden Spot Fire Rescue, 339 E. Main St., New Holland. A fundraising breakfast, to which the public is invited, will be held at the same time as the derby. The breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. The derby will continue until a winner is announced. Breakfast will be served until 11 a.m. “The Pinewood Derby is the Cub Scout signature fun thing to do each year,� said Allison Cuthie, one of the organizers of the breakfast. has announced that it will hold several ELANCO Spartan Sprouts prekindergarten nights for families with children entering kindergarten in the 2020-21 school year. The program will be led by district professional staff members, who will share activities, games, and information on early literacy and early math to help children get a head start on school success.
