Whisk Café, a different style of eatery, is dedicated to Kreamer’s parents, who inspired her interest in gourmet cooking. The café features a local farmto-table concept, with fruits and beef from the Masonic Village Farm Market, meats from

Groff ’s Meats, and fresh eggs from a local hatchery. In addition to fresh baked goods and seasonal desserts, the café features breakfast offerings including eggs Benedict with fresh hollandaise sauce and seasonal French toast with apples, peaches, or strawberries. Whisk Café serves beverages from Red Rooster Coffee and Swallowtail Tea from Floyd, Va., as well as a variety of expresso beverages, smoothies, and mocktails. The lunch menu is composed

of lighter fare such as salads, sandwiches with deli meats or fresh chicken salad on a croissant, and a tart of the day with fresh fruit. The café also offers a children’s menu. Catering is also available. In addition to indoor seating, customers have the option of dining outdoors seasonally and ordering online at www.the whiskcafe.com. A gift shop area offers local merchandise. The restaurant will available to rent for private parties. Whisk Café is open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rheems Elementary School students held a school-wide food drive to help local families in need during the holiday season. For one week in early November, each grade level at the school was assigned a food group to donate. Kindergarteners brought in cereal and soup, first-graders collected canned vegetables, secondgraders donated stuffing and instant mashed potatoes, and third-graders brought in canned vegetables and gravy. At the end of the week, hundreds of nonperishable food items were collected. The donated food items were sorted into food boxes for local families for the Thanksgiving holiday. The

school’s PTO also planned to chip in by supplying each food box with a turkey voucher to a local grocery store and a dessert item. Leftover food items will be donated to the local food bank. To show their appreciation, the school’s faculty and support staff wrote notes of appreciation to each student in the school on paper feathers that were used to construct four giant paper turkeys in the lobby of the school. As part of Elizabethtown Area School District’s Life Ready Model, student participation in altruistic projects is intended to extend learning beyond the four Rheems Elementary School students collected items for their walls of the school system. Faulkner Chevrolet helped spearhead a campaign, alongside Faulkner BMW, in conjunction with The Salvation Army to bring Christmas cheer to 75 children throughout Lancaster County. It was the first collaboration between the two Faulkner dealerships and the local Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. The Angel Tree Program is an annual event. Children ages of 2 to 18 can request gifts, and the Lancaster community supports the efforts to grant their wishes. Children provide their size for a new jacket and request hats, gloves, and scarves to keep them warm during the winter months. Requested toys include crafts, board games, dolls, stuffed animals, and more. The goal is for donors to give what they are able and bring joy to children during the holiday season.

Chiques United Methodist Church (UMC), 1215 E. Main St., Mount Joy, celebrated its 60-year anniversary on Nov. 3 with an anniversary banquet at The Gathering Place in Mount Joy. The anniversary celebration began with a worship service at 9:45 a.m. with a morning message by the Rev. Dr. Reid S. Thomas Jr. At the noontime banquet, Michael Byrd, the current pastor at Chiques, provided the welcome and invocation. The dinner was then served family style, with the

menu including fruit cup, baked ham, stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, baked corn, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, dinner rolls, pie and ice cream, and coffee, hot tea, iced tea, lemonade, and milk. The Chiques theme song, “To God Be the Glory,” was then performed. A time of recognition followed, with Jay Mueller Jr. leading the recognition of former pastors, wives of former pastors, Chiques sons of ministry, charter members, 50-year members, and the new confirmation class.

A music medley was presented by pastor Beverly Andrews and Randy Watts. Mueller presented a slide show, and Byrd offered closing remarks. Chiques UMC was formed by the merger of the Mount Joy and Salunga Methodist Churches. Under the leadership of the Rev. George K. Ludwig, the two congregations first voted for merger on Feb. 24, 1957. Details were worked out under the direction of the Rev. Menno E. Good, who was appointed to the circuit in May. On Dec. 20, 1957, the

Lancaster County Court granted a new charter for the merged congregation. Eight acres of land along Route 230 were purchased on March 11, 1958, midway between the two original congregations. The name Chiques was selected because the new property was situated midway between the Big and Little Chiques creeks. On Easter Sunday, March 29, 1959, ground was broken for the new church. The cornerstone was laid on June 7, and the new building was dedicated on Nov. 10 of that year.
