his holiday season, E-town will become Christmas TreEtown thanks to the Elizabethtown Holiday Task Force. The group, supported by the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce and Elizabethtown Borough, will bring a variety of events to town to celebrate the holidays. “We’ll be kicking everything off with a tree lighting on Tuesday, Nov. 30,” said Carissa Ressler, chair of the event committee. “This will be happening at The Elizabeth, which is the old Moose building at 18 N. Market St., from 5 to 8 p.m.” The evening will feature carolers and an outdoor coffee shop. “Families can go inside and make ornaments to hang on the tree, and they can visit with Santa outside.” The Elizabeth will also host a series of movie nights, beginning with “Elf” on Thursday, Dec. 9. Additional films will be “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Friday, Dec. 17 and “The Star” on Wednesday, Dec. 22. All films will be shown at 6 p.m. The task force is also featuring a Santa’s Flights Brewery Passport program, highlighting three local breweries. “People can purchase Santa’s Flights Passports and visit Cox Brewery, Funk Brewing and Moo-Duck Brewery to enjoy flights of beer,” Ressler noted. Participants may purchase passports at Funk Brewing, 28 S. Market St., beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and will also receive a souvenir ornament at each location. The

passport program will run through Wednesday, Dec. 29. LIV E-Town, a community outreach project run by downtown Elizabethtown businesses, will be holding a “Merry Grinchmas” event on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will feature family-friendly holiday activities, including coloring contests and cookie decorating, as well as a meet-and-greet with the Grinch. “ We’re also promoting our local light shows at Messick’s and Stone Gables Estate, which will have a drive-through display,” Ressler noted. “Then, the big event to close everything out will be our New Year’s Eve event called ‘Welcome 2022,’ which will be hosted at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church from 3 to 7 p.m.” It will feature food, including a chicken barbecue, as well as music and activities for kids and families on Friday, Dec. 31. The church is located at 125 E. High St. The idea for Christmas TreEtown came from Bob Price, executive director of the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce, Ressler said. “He had worked at Penn State, and they did a similar thing and he thought it would be a nice way to make the holidays special in E-town,” she stated. “We started brainstorming ideas of what we could do to bring everybody together to celebrate. How can we make the holidays magical for everyone?” For more information and updates or to purchase tickets for the movie nights, visit Discover Elizabethtown’s Facebook page.
