Dishing out nostalgia in “It Happened on Route 66” BY CATHY MOLITORIS

Set in an Arizona diner in 1955, “It Happened on Route 66” offers audiences a serving of nostalgia with a side of humor. “This show will have you giggling from start to finish,” said Ginger Wayde, who is directing the play with the Elizabethtown Homeschool

Drama Program, part of the Life Enrichment Center (LEC) homeschool co-op in Mount Joy. “I particularly like staging comedies, because we all need to laugh more.” The play will be performed at Hope Community Church, 1806 Harrisburg Ave., Mount Joy, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, and at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18. Santa and the Grinch will be the focus of a holiday event in Elizabethtown.

LIV-ETown and the Elizabethtown Area Chamber of Commerce have collaborated to kick off the holiday season with the Merry Grinchmas E-Town Tree Lighting. The festivities will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, with the tree lighting scheduled for 7 p.m. “We decided to combine forces this year to provide a great experience for everyone, all in one place,” said Denise Grove, executive director of the Chamber. The Chamber is organizing the tree lighting, which will happen in the parking lot of The Elizabeth, 18 N. Market St. “We’ll have a stage set up there

with performances by local musicians and entertainers,” said Cindy Telenko, owner of Twisted Easel,

“LIV-ETown is so excited to be working with the Chamber to combine these two events into one big celebration of the holidays.” who is helping to coordinate the event. She added that Funk Brewing owner Jon Norman will be the master of ceremonies. Additionally, Stone Gables Estate will provide a trolley that will

transport visitors through town, with history on board provided by the Winters Heritage House Museum. The Elizabethtown Public Library, 10 S. Market St., will feature The Train Guys with a display in the lower level, and Santa’s Cottage will be set up in the square. Santa will greet children at the cottage from 6 to 7 p.m. and will then return after the tree lighting from 8 to 9 p.m. “We will be using a pager system prior to the tree lighting so anyone in line for seeing Santa won’t lose their spot if they haven’t seen him by 7 p.m. when he goes to light the tree with the Grumpy Grinch,”

Shopping small this holiday season BY CATHY MOLITORIS

Lancaster County’s economy is driven by small, local businesses. According to data from EDC Lancaster County, the county is home to more than 13,000 businesses, 97% of which have fewer than 100 employees. Truly, local businesses are at the heart of Lancaster County communities. What better way to celebrate the diversity, uniqueness and creativity of independent, local businesses than by supporting

them during the busiest shopping season of the year? “When you shop small, you are supporting and investing in your community so that it can continue to grow and thrive,” said Denise Grove, executive director of the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce. “By supporting small businesses, you are creating a sense of community. When you shop small, you also have the opportunity to have a personal connection with the business owners which creates a unique shopping experience.” See Shopping pg 2
