Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) had such a successful run with last fall’s student production of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” - including four Apollo Award actor nominations - that co-directors Christine Blaisdell and Jen Rutkowski decided to tackle another comedy written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman this season. EAHS will present “You Can’t Take It With You” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, and at 1 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the school auditorium at 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. “We have a very comedic group of kids this year, and we knew they would do well with this show,” remarked Jen Rutkowski. “The strength of this group is really their teamwork. They’re like brothers and sisters. And their hard work ethic and love for theater would be their other claim to fame.” Blaisdell noted that the two seniors in the 18-member
cast, Claire Fritz and Carter Rutkowski, have stepped up to provide phenomenal leadership to the entire group. “Along with that, we’re seeing all of the underclassmen step up and thrive,” said Blaisdell. Carter will portray grandfather Martin Vanderhof, the eccentric patriarch of the wacky Sycamore family, who are living in New York City in 1936. His easily distracted daughter, Penny Sycamore (Tori Bressler), is a writer and painter married to eternal tinkerer Paul Sycamore (Bryan Murray). “Penny is crazy, but everybody loves her,” remarked Tori. One of the couple’s daughters, Essie Sycamore Carmichael (Emma Buettner), is a goofy candy maker with aspirations of becoming a ballerina, while their other daughter, Alice Sycamore (Claire), works in an office and is the lone strait-laced, “normal” family member. Tony Kirby (Evan Kready) falls in love with Alice and brings his parents - Mr. and Mrs. Kirby (Nick Bettendorf and Keli Georges) - to dinner at the Sycamore family See EAHS Play pg 2
