“See You in Bells” BY LOGAN MOYER
The Promise Players are putting a new twist on metatheater. Instead of watching a play about another play, you can watch a play about a church while sitting in one. The theater group will put on its fall show, “See You in Bells,” on Thursday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8, and Thursday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 15, at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster. Thursday and Friday performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., Saturday shows will start at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday shows will commence at 2:30 p.m. The show, written by Edie C laire, follows the chaotic wedding of Jenna Bower, the youngest daughter in a family that has been doomed by ruinous weddings. “The family has had a series of disastrous weddings in this church building before,” said Glenn Grubb, the director of the show. “The building is kind of old and run down, and it’s actually going to be the last service in the church. … Some disastrous things happen in the church; that sort of sets a scene for why (things) are the way they are.” The show has five flashback s ce n e s a n d fe at u re s s o m e younger actors who will play past versions of the adult characters. “It’s a good, funny show, but it does have some good messaging,” Grubb said. “We usually prefer to do comedies, but we have done some dramas in the past. … This is another one that everybody really liked.” The Promise Players launched in 1995 and have put on more than 50 shows over the course of more than three decades. Agriculture Secretary Will Speak at Farmers’ Luncheon BY CATHY MOLITORIS
Farmers are the backbone of our country and Lancaster County. The Mount Joy Rotary Club wants to recognize and honor their work. The club will host a Farmers’ Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at noon. It will be held at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy. This year’s event will feature a special guest of honor, Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding. “Mike Melhorn from our club reached out to Secretary Redding’s office about Farmers’ Day,” shared Rotar y Club president Greg Sallade, who added that this date worked best with Redding’s schedule. “National Farmers’ Day is actually on Oct. 12.” The event will feature a lunch of a salad, an entrée, a drink and desserts, along with remarks from club members, who will provide brief updates on the Rotary’s work. “The majority of time, Secretar y Redding will speak,” Sallade said. Redding has served as the state’s Secretary of Agriculture under three governors, beginning in 2009. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture education and agriculture and extension education, respectively, from Penn State. He owns and operates a farm in the Gettysburg area with his wife, Nina. Sallade invites farmers in the Mount Joy and surrounding areas to attend the luncheon. “I heard Secretary Redding is a good speaker, and we have never had the Sec-
Russell Redding
retary of Agriculture speak here before,” he added. T he Rotar y C lub of Mount Joy will also host a Veterans Day breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at The Gathering Place. It will run from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and is open to all veterans and their guests. Both the luncheon and the breakfast are events that ref lect the Rotary Club’s mission of providing service to the community. With a motto of “Service Above Self,” the club has been active since 1926. The club and its members support a variety of projects in the community, all under “The Four Way Test” code of ethics: Is it fair, will it build goodwill, will it strengthen friendships and will it be beneficial to all concerned? The club is composed of community leaders, business owners and other individuals who believe in giving back. “We do a lot of good things for our local community,” Sallade said. Registration is requested for both the Farmers’ Luncheon and the Veterans Day Breakfast. The deadline to register for the luncheon is Friday, Oct. 30. The deadline for the breakfast is Friday, Nov. 6. To register, visit www .mountjoyrotary.org. For questions, contact Joanne Pinker ton at joanne@ gatheringplacemj.com.

We lost an actor at the beginning, and I get to find another player. It’s a minor hole, but hopefully I won’t be forced to play it.” The Promise Players’ productions frequently sell out. Although the event will take place in Mount Joy, it’s open to all veterans and their caregivers throughout Lancaster County. “If you are a veteran or have a veteran family member, this event will b r i n g m a ny re s o u rce s together for you to leverage at your fingertips,” said Stacey Miller, service officer for Post 185. “The needs of veterans vary, and these organizations can help you navigate to find the best care and programs available for the veteran and their caregiver.” With so many organizations offering different types of assistance, finding the right resource can be a challenge for veterans and their families. The information session will give attendees an opportunity to learn about services they may not know are available, ask questions about their individual circumstances and connect directly with people who can guide them through the process. Caregivers can also benefit from learning about programs designed to help them navigate the challenges of caring for a veteran. By bringing representatives from multiple agencies together, the Legion hopes to make it easier for veterans to identify their needs and find the appropriate next steps. Federal, state and local
agencies will attend the program. Participants will include a Veterans Affairs (VA) Service Officer, who will help with VA claims processing; VA Benefits Administration, which will provide information on how to register with the VA; the Building Bridges Foundation, which will highlight its equine therapy program; S heetz Funeral Home, which will help attendees understand veteran burial benefits; and Team Jennifer Cahill Charities, which is focused on supporting female veterans. The event will be informal and held in the church fellowship hall, enabling attendees to network with other veterans, ask questions and gain resources they seek. “ T h e re w i l l b e l i g h t refreshments available for everyone to enjoy as they build their community of support,” Miller said. Miller hopes attendees will take the first step toward getting the support needed and learning about the resources available to them in the community, noting that sometimes all it takes is one conversation with the right person to open the doors to help. No registration is required to attend the drop-in event. For more information or any questions, contact Miller at ALPOST185SO@gmail.com or 717-808-6444.
Josh Baldwin will bring his Worship Nights Tour to Lancaster Bible College (LBC) on Thursday, Nov. 5. Presented by LBC and Junction Center Productions, the event will be held at 7 p.m. in Good Shepherd Chapel, 901 Eden Road, Lancaster. Baldwin, a songwriter and worship leader, joined the Bethel Music Collective in 2014 after spending 10 years serving as a worship pastor in North Carolina. His 2024 single “Made for More” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Christian charts and earned RIAA Gold certification. His other well-known songs include “Evidence” and
“Stand in Your Love.” Baldwin’s newest studio album, “Worth Everything,” was set to be released in October. The 10-song collection was created with the local church in mind and reflects Baldwin’s desire to encourage believers to view worship not simply as music but as a lifestyle of surrender. Baldwin lives in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., with his family and continues to write and lead worship around the world. To purchase tickets, visit www.itickets.com/ events/486655.
