t’s “An American Tradition.” That’s the theme for the 48th annual Elizabethtown Fair, which will begin on Monday, Aug. 23, and run through Saturday, Aug. 28. The theme sums up the fair perfectly, said Sally Nolt, fair secretary,

who noted that the fair committee is ready to go after having to cancel last year’s fair. “We’re back after a year off, and we’re back in full force,” she said. “You can see all of things you’d expect to see. We rebooked all of the entertainment from last year.” The fair will feature rides, games, food, agricultural exhibits, livestock
shows, competitions and more. “We really have something for all ages, from the baby contest to the Senior Citizens’ Day and all ages in between,” she stated. Nolt cautioned that although the fair is back in full form, some vendors may be missing, and some rides may not operate. “The only issue we’ve run into so far

this year is help. We have several stands who won’t be here this year because they just couldn’t find people to help them run them,” she explained. “We’ll also have fewer rides for the kids for the same reason.” Help is also needed to run the horseshoe pitch contest, she said, or the event will be canceled.

Lancaster County has a rich geologic history, and Jeri Jones loves to highlight it. He will offer a geologic tour of the Haldeman Mansion property on Saturday, Aug. 21, beginning at 10 a.m. The tour will be held on the grounds of the mansion, 230 Locust Grove Road, Bainbridge.
