Elizabethtown Team Hosts Little Leaguers From China By Chelsea Peifer
As Elizabethtown 10U All-Star baseball team head coach Mason Shank said, “It’s not every day that you get to play against a team from China.” On July 31, though, his players had that very opportunity. Troy Steffy, Lancaster Barnstormers assistant coach and baseball operations manager, contacted the Elizabethtown team as he was scheduling exhibition games for the Shenzhen Cyclones, a Little League baseball team visiting from Shenzhen, China. The Cyclones, a team of 10- and 11-year-olds, trained with the Barnstormers from July 26 to Aug. 1 as part of a 24-day Sino-U.S.A. Baseball Summer Camp hosted by Shenzhen MY Sports Education and multiple baseball organizations and partners on the East Coast.
Hundreds of people packed the stands for the evening game at Wenger Field on Poplar Street in Elizabethtown to show support for their hometown players and welcome the international players and coaches. Prior to the game, the national anthems from both countries were played. “That reception from the Elizabethtown community was

incredible,” Steffy said. “I can’t explain the energy that was there and the passion they have for baseball and their players.” In the end, the Elizabethtown team won 12-2. “The beginning of the game was pretty competitive. (Our players) were extremely excited and nervous, but they loosened up as the game went on,” said Shank. See Baseball pg 7

The Edible Classroom Wraps Up Fruitful Summer By Chelsea Peifer
Just like spring, summer, and fall keep area farmers going nonstop, those seasons are busiest for The Edible Classroom as staff and volunteers share hands-on gardening lessons with
students throughout Lancaster County. From July 29 to Aug. 2, students from the School District of Lancaster (SDoL) met in the garden at Hamilton Elementary School for a Garden to Table camp led by Beth Horst, who along with Grace Julian co-founded The Edible Classroom as a nonprofit organization in 2018 in an effort to teach more students about growing their own See The Edible Classroom pg 2
Plans are underway for a ninehole disc golf course to be installed throughout Little Chiques Park, 229 Park Ave., Mount Joy. Local residents Ben Heisey and Dave Christian had the idea for the course and consulted with Travis Dombach, a council member with Lancaster Area Frisbee Sports (LAFS), about potential course designs for the park, as Dombach was a key designer for the Ship Rock Disc Golf Course in Willow Street and the Muddy Run Disc Golf Course in Holtwood. The trio proposed the idea to the Mount Joy Borough Public Works Committee in September 2018 and the Mount Joy Borough Council in October 2018, and the idea was met with unanimous approval at both meetings.
