Come To A Strawberry Social BY CATHY MOLITORIS
IV-ETown will serve up some old-fashioned fun at the second annual Strawberry Social. The event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, at Elizabethtown Borough Park, 201 S. Mount Joy St. “The Strawberry Social was LIV’s first event, a give-back to the community as a way of saying thank you for the love and support our downtown and its businesses have received in the past year and (over the) years,” explained Tony Gibble, co-owner of The Tatted Toy Guys and one of the organizers of the event. He explained that the Strawberry Social will be set up like a community picnic in the park, with games, food trucks and more. Most of the activities will be free, including a pie-eating contest, a kids’ cupcake-eating contest, a candy and toy toss, a candy buffet

“It’s going to be an exciting time to be a part of the community” picnic items such as a blanket, table, chairs, whatever you choose or just bring yourselves,” said Clint Gibble, co-owner of The Tatted Toy Guys. “A number of picnic tables will also be pre-decorated and available. Food and drink can be brought with you or bought at the various food
vendors and trucks.” He noted that the event will wrap up with the ultimate summer fun activity. “The event ends with a water gun battle to cool off after the hot summer day,” he stated. “Some water guns and sprayers will be provided, but feel free to come with your own.” Abby Huber, owner of Charlamay’s Trinkets and Treasures, noted that a special sticker celebrating the Strawberry Social will be available for the “My Town, E-Town Sticker Book,” as well as a special sticker from the Elizabethtown Police Department. The event is a way to bring people together to relax, have fun and celebrate the start of summer, said Amy McEvoy, a LIV-Etown member. “It’s going to be an exciting time to be a part of the community,” she remarked. In the parking lot of Calvary Bible Church in Mount Joy, a community space is calling. The church, located at 629 Union School Road, is home to basketball courts used regularly by local youths. Now, thanks to Bill Osborne, those courts will be the site of a three-onthree men’s basketball tournament, which will be held on Saturday, June 25, beginning at 9 a.m.
