EAHS Students To Present “Shrek The Musical” By Chelsea Peifer

Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) students are making final preparations for the spring production of “Shrek the Musical.” Performances are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday to Saturday, March 12 to 14, in the auditorium at EAHS, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. A 1 p.m. showing is set for March 14. “Shrek the Musical” will be directed by Christy Blaisdell and Jen Rutkowski, with musical direction by Rich Winey and pit direction by Corinne Kern. Leading the 40-person cast are seniors Jake Sevcik as Shrek, Claire Fritz as Fiona, Adam Evans as Donkey, Carter Rutkowski as Lord Farquaad, Mac Smith as Dragon, and sophomore Keli Georges as Pinocchio. A stage and tech crew of 25 students is led by stage managers Abigail Franz and Lara Hummer and tech

managers Tyler Faulkner and Jared Alvarez. “Shrek the Musical” features all-new songs from Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Based on the book by William Steig and the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation motion picture, “Shrek the Musical” is a Tony Award-winning fairytale adventure that many EAHS cast members said they grew up watching and loving making the opportunity to perform it onstage all the more exciting. The movie released in 2001, just before many of this year’s seniors were born. “I grew up watching ‘Shrek,’ and now I get to play him, which is awesome,” said Jake. “I had to learn (to speak with) a Scottish accent, so that was tricky.” Hours of practice and watching the movie and lots of YouTube videos for insight helped him to nail that aspect of portraying Shrek, everyone’s favorite green ogre. “I’m really excited about my See “Shrek” pg 3
