Elizabethtown Area High School students (from left) Derek Hottenstein, Emily Bonsall, Faith Burkholder, and Samantha Ippolito received the FFA Keystone Degree. Elizabethtown Area High School’s recent FFA jacket recipients are (from left) Jackson Umbrell, Brianna Wolfe, Austin Howes, Faith Musser, Matty Colvin-Keefer, Vivienne Nolt, Mya Ellis, and (not pictured) Calista Bryant.

Pennsylvania FFA presented Elizabethtown Area High School students Emily Bonsall, Faith Burkholder, Derek Hottenstein, and Samantha Ippolito with Keystone Degrees at the Pennsylvania FFA Mid-Winter Convention held in conjunction with the 2022 Pennsylvania Farm Show. This honor is the highest award given by the Pennsylvania FFA association. Selection to receive a Keystone Degree is based on a student’s involvement in FFA and completion of an approved supervised agricultural experience project outside the classroom.

Also at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, eight first-year FFA students from Elizabethtown Area High School received their FFA jacket through the Pennsylvania FFA Alumni Jacket Program. Earning jackets were Calista Bryant, Matty ColvinKeefer, Mya Ellis, Austin Howes, Faith Musser, Vivienne Nolt, Jackson Umbrell, and Brianna Wolfe. To qualify, the members had to complete an application and write an essay answering the question “What does the FFA jacket mean to me?” The blue corduroy jacket allows students to take part in numerous FFA programs.

FFA is dedicated to making a positive difference in students’ lives by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Mark Anderson, agricultural science teacher at the high school, is the club adviser.

townlively.com Friday frompg 1 our town and what it has to offer. It creates a fun environment where everyone can be a part of it.” 2nd Fridays have been spotlighted in Elizabethtown for a few years and were originally managed by the Elizabethtown Chamber of Commerce, said Tony Gibble, who owns two local businesses, The Tatted Toy Guys and The Candy Unicornium, with Clint. Recently, a group of community members began revitalizing 2nd Fridays under the umbrella of LIV-ETown, a group made up of volunteers and business owners including Clint and Tony, Charlamay’s Trinkets and Treasures owner Abby Huber and Frugal Finds owner Liz Carotto. “2nd Fridays are about community interaction in Elizabethtown’s downtown, with families and friends having fun together,” Tony stated. “Each 2nd Friday has an overall theme as well as a free scavenger hunt downtown designed to fit the theme. Everyone gets a free prize at the end of their scavenger hunt and is entered into a grand prize drawing.” Individual businesses are encouraged to offer specials or activities inside their stores to fit the theme, he said, such as a giveaway or game. 2nd Fridays also feature dessert trucks, special vendors and food specials at downtown restaurants.

“Several times throughout the year, extra special events will be happening during the 2nd Friday evenings,” Tony stated. “In April, we’ll have Wonderlandza Egg-stravaganza, where we will be hosting Oliver the Rabbit and his buddy the Mad Hatter for photos with other fun activities - egg-themed, of course.”

For this month’s 2nd Friday, on March 11, St. Patrick’s Day will be the theme. “Guests will be welcome to take part in Crazy Pat’s Gold Coin Scavenger Hunt, where you’ll go on a hunt through participating businesses downtown to find an item on your hunt sheet,” said Clint, noting that the hunt will begin at Charlamay’s Trinkets and Treasures, 45 S. Market St., and will end with a candy prize donated by The Candy Unicornium, 2 W. High St. “Twisted Spoon will be on the square serving Irish favorites. Irish music will fill the air. There will be a photo op spot and other fun.” He added that people are invited to dress for St. Patrick’s Day, with green clothes, accessories and costumes strongly encouraged.

“If you want to feel small-town spirit, this is a year not to miss E-town’s 2nd Fridays as we grow the activities and fun to be had in our beautiful downtown,” Huber remarked. “It’s not just for our community, but for anyone that wants to have a great time with great people.”

For more information and updates on 2nd Fridays, follow LIV_ETown on Facebook or Instagram.

Servant Stage Will Present “Songs For A New World”

BY CATHY MOLITORIS

When audiences come to a performance of “Songs for a New World,” they can expect something a little different than a traditional musical. “It’s like paying for one show, but you’re actually seeing 15,” said Wally Calderon, who will direct the show for Servant Stage. As Calderon explained, “Songs For A New World” is a collection of songs that are intertwined.

“It’s a very interesting piece of theater,” he stated. “People are used to going to see a show where they are following one story in the same setting, but in this show, these are 15 different stories. Every song is its own story, its own character. They are all tied together through a couple of themes.” Those themes include the moment of decision, when people must choose to back away from something, move forward or shift gears entirely, he said. “The decision might be about love, or it might be a decision about family or about life in general or about a
