We welcome you to the Elizabethtown Borough, a historic town with a population just under 12,000 where walkable neighborhoods, a vibrant downtown and an interactive community are celebrated. The town, founded by Barnabas and Elizabeth Hughes, began as a trading post that grew into plots of land that were eventually incorporated as a Borough in 1827. We are proud of our Scots-Irish heritage and the close sister-city relationship cultivated with Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland.

The Borough operates under a council-manager form of government with six Councilmembers, two elected from each of the three wards in the community. The Mayor, elected at large, oversees police operations and votes in the event of a Council tie vote. Day-to-day administration is managed by a professional borough manager. Service includes planning and zoning, police, streets, parks, trash and recycling, wastewater, and general administration and finance.

Along with a healthy mix of business and industry, downtown Elizabethtown offers retail shops, professional offices, and eateries. Elizabethtown College and the local school district offices, high school, middle school and two elementary schools are located within the Borough limits. Nearly 40 acres of public open space and park-land, including an expanding pedestrian and bicycle pathway network, is within walking distance to residential neighborhoods, schools and downtown. The Elizabethtown Train Station along Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor serves Harrisburg and Philadelphia providing comfortable mass transit for commuters or those interested in sightseeing.

Sunday Schedule Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday Morning 8:15 AM and 11:00 AM 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM (Memorial Day weekend - Labor Day weekend) Sunday School for all ages 9:45 AM (September through May) Lutherans, who immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany, began worshipping near the village of Milton Grove around the year 1732. In the early 1750’s, the group moved to the William Bishop Farm on Ridge Road. On September 29, 1771, the growing congregation celebrated its first Liturgy at its current location on East High Street. Later becoming known as Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, the congregation has maintained a Lutheran Christian presence in the Elizabethtown community ever since.

The first church building was a simple log house. In 1805, the log structure was replaced by a brick structure, which was eventually razed in 1886, making way for the present building. The current building underwent two major interior renovations, with the first being in 1921. The second renovation was completed in 1946 in celebration of the congregation’s 175th anniversary. It was at that time that the beautiful stained glass windows depicting the saints were installed.

More than a building or location, Christ Lutheran Church is a body of believers committed to the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ. This Good News is heard in the proclamation of the Scriptures, preaching and teaching and forgiveness of sins. The Gospel is made visible in the celebration of Baptism and Communion. As God’s priestly people and sacramental sign, the people of Christ Lutheran live out their faith in witness and service to Elizabethtown and beyond.

Mount Joy Township is located between the boroughs of Elizabethtown and Mount Joy, bordering Dauphin and Lebanon Counties to the north. The Township was "born" in 1759 from the adjacent and much larger Donegal Township. The area was originally inhabited by the Conoy Indians and was mainly settled by Scots-Irish and German immigrants. Many small settlements and thriving villages were established in the midst of acres of lush farmland, most of which is still actively farmed. Today, our Township has the peculiar distinction as the only municipality in Lancaster County that is served by two separate school districts: Donegal School District and Elizabethtown Area School District.

Governed by a five-member, elected Board of Supervisors, Mount Joy Township is home to productive farmland, wooded hills, family-friendly neighborhoods, and three public parks within its 28 square miles. The 10-acre Wolgemuth Park is located next to our Fairview Municipal Complex and features walking paths, baseball and softball fields, and a pavilion next to a playground. Cove Outlook Park can be found across from the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center's Mount Joy campus. Cove Outlook is a spacious, 25-acre park, consisting of walking paths, a soccer field, four pavilions, and two playground areas. Old Trolley Line Park offers a multipurpose field, two ballfields, walking trails, and a parking area that serves as a convenient trailhead for the adjacent Conewago Recreation Trail. Playground equipment and picnic pavilions are planned to be added soon.

West Donegal Township is located in northwest Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors the 2016 US Census estimate indicates that the Township has 8,595 residents. Situated west and south of Elizabethtown, the Township comprises an area of 15.6 square miles in area. The township maintains 48.3 miles of township roads with PA State roads adding an additional 13 miles for a total of 61.3 miles. The Township is part of the Elizabethtown Area School District with the Rheems Elementary School located within the Township.

Situated between Harrisburg and Lancaster, West Donegal Township provides residents employment and recreation opportunities with additional amenities in the larger cities. A variety of housing types and areas are available for prospective residents. They range from agricultural farmsteads, to single family, duplex and townhomes as well as apartments and condominiums.

Located within the Township is the Village of Rheems and the 1,400acre campus of Masonic Village. With a population of over 2,000 residents, Masonic Village provides retirement living and health care facilities as well as recreation opportunities for the broader community. The Conewago Industrial Park in the northwest corner of the township is home to a variety of businesses including American Air Filter, Pioneer, Crowe Transportation, Walker Sales, Western Power Sports, LCL Bulk Transport, Tarantin Industries, DAS, Angleboard, Amazon, Grove Collaborative, and Nordstrom East Coast Fulfillment Center, to name a few. Also located within the Township is Stone Gables Estate which is the home of the recently reconstructed Star Barn in the Star Barn Village and the Ironstone Ranch which provides event venue spaces for weddings and corporate events.

Settled in 1719 and incorporated in 1838, West Donegal Township is named after County Donegal in Ireland. The original Township of Donegal was organized by the court of Chester County in 1722, and was one of the two townships which originally comprised Lancaster County at the time of its inception in 1729. The settlers of Donegal Township were primarily farmers of Scots-Irish descent who were drawn to the area by the rich soils and plentiful streams. Early settlers, Arthur Patterson and others, organized a Presbyterian Church at Donegal in 1726, and erected the old church edifice at that time.

Mennonite and Brethren in Christ denominations were also represented in the early life of the Township. On the 24th of June, 1838, the original Township was divided in two, becoming what remains today as East Donegal and West Donegal Townships.

Masonic Village Masonic Village at Elizabethtown is well-known as a continuing care retirement community. Beyond providing an engaging lifestyle and high quality care for older adults, we offer opportunities for people of all ages.

We invite visitors to stroll through our beautiful gardens, reflect at our Veterans Grove and Eternal Flame monument, traverse more than 9 miles of walking paths, explore our Model Railroad Club, visit our Farm Market for fresh produce and have lunch at the Orchard View Café.

Living options on campus include nursing care and personal care suites; retirement living studios, apartments and cottages; a children’s home for 40 youth; and a home for adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. We also provide short-term rehabilitation, home care and hospice services for individuals throughout the greater Elizabethtown community.

A not-for-profit organization, Masonic Village has the benefit of being tax-exempt. As part of a commitment to our community, we voluntarily signed a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement. Over a 20-year period, Elizabethtown Area School District will receive more than $19 million and Lancaster County, West Donegal Township and Elizabethtown Borough will receive more than $5.9 million to continue to benefit our friends and neighbors.

To encourage and support local youth, we award up to six $2,500 scholarships for Elizabethtown Area High School seniors who have volunteered their time to support our mission. The high school also uses our facilities for the prom, swim

team practices and other educational programming for free or at cost. To inspire innovative programs that engage students, we have pledged to give $300,000 over 20 years to the Elizabethtown Area Education Foundation.

The community can take advantage of wellness opportunities at our Baird Wellness Center and through our partnership with GEARS, which hosts many quality programs on our campus. We also offer the local community high quality child day care services and stimulating adult day care services.

Masonic Village’s Outreach Program and monthly caregiver and bereavement support group meetings provide free education and support to those in need.

Through individuals and businesses who contribute to our mission, Masonic Villages is able to provide services worth approximately $40.5 million annually to individuals unable to pay for their care. Including Masonic Villages’ five locations across the state, we serve more than 2,800 people daily.

As part of the Greater Elizabethtown Area, your dreams may be all about building your business, raising your children to be literate and resilient, or retiring with purpose and meaningful connections. No matter where you're going, Elizabethtown Public Library is here for you. We roast our coffee on site to keep you caffeinated and energized for your day. We are happy to serve you by the cup or by the pound. If you are in any kind of service position, chances are you need an FBI fingerprint background check. After you register at uenroll.identogo.com (we encourage an appointment) you can come to the Library and get your prints done.

The Library has a robust collection of materials to help you build your business. From writing your business plan to getting financing, we've got instructional books audios, and electronic databases to guide you. The Coffee Company, owned and operated by the Library, is a great place to meet clients or use the wireless access to get some work done. You can bring your device and connect with people and information across the globe.

As you can tell, there is so much that you can do at the Library! Amazingly enough, you can also borrow books for all ages in standard and large print. We have a small collection of braille readers and a robust collection of audio books. The Library has a great collection of movies as well.

You can check books out for your e-reader with your Library card from the comfort of wherever you are as long as you have internet access. The Library also has some unique items to lend including giant scissors for your grand opening, jumper cables, and cake pans. If you'd prefer to own your items, please visit the Friends of the Library bookstore where you can find books, clothes for your 18 inch dolls, and a variety of items crafted by local artisans that change regularly.

Connection is a big deal, and not just for businesses.

It's important for everyone, including young people.

The Library is a great place for children, starting as infants, to connect with others their own age. Baby time, story time, and other literacy-based children's programming are great opportunities for kiddos to enjoy socialization, an introduction to language and numbers, and develop their curiosity and fine-motor skills. Parents and guardians also get to connect with each other, share ideas, and have a little grown-up time.

The Library is pleased to be rooted in Elizabethtown and serving the Greater Elizabethtown Area. We strive to be responsive to the needs of our community and grow into bolder service every year!

Sometimes grown-up time is about having quality time with your grandchildren. The Library is a great place for that. We would like to invite you to the 47th annual Elizabethtown Fair. Our fair serves as a showcase for local talent and reminds us of the agricultural heritage of Lancaster County. It is a place for families and friends to gather and celebrate all the best in our community.

Forty-six years ago the first Elizabethtown Fair was held in Community Park. The first year, there was one tent for competitive exhibits, one food stand, and a few carnival rides. There were no livestock or commercial vendors, no contests, and no entertainment. Over forty years later we have grown to over 3,000 competitive exhibits, forty food stands, over 150 commercial exhibitors, and over 800 livestock. We have added entertainment on two stages and daily contests.

We offer something for everyone from the Baby Photo Contest to Senior Citizens Day. The petting zoo, manned by over 100 volunteers is a very popular attraction for all ages. We offer a place for youth to come together to show their livestock.

The Fair operates with great cooperation from the Elizabethtown Area School District and the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church as the fairgrounds are on school district property and parking is offered on church property. The church also provides an area for Competitive Exhibits to be displayed and a room for our monthly board meetings.

The Elizabethtown Fair has continued to grow and serve as a place for us to gather as a community to exhibit, compete, entertain, and fellowship together. We have been able to successfully bring together agriculture, business, church, and education in a great atmosphere.
