The new location will allow for more social distancing, and the tree will already be lit at the time of the event, Schell said. Although some changes will be made this year, the event will still include aspects the community looks forward to.

“Winterfest will feature food, entertainment and vendors,” Schell stated. “We’ll also have Santa (available for visits) at Sheetz Funeral Home.”

He said area businesses, nonprofits and churches will participate in the festivities, offering food like homemade whoopie pies and one-of-a-kind items from Mount Joy stores. Many shops in Mount Joy will be open, and others will have booths in the Winterfest area.

The day will provide an opportunity to get to know more about what the town has to offer. “This is a great way for anyone to come and investigate what all we have in downtown Mount Joy,” Schell said. “You can check out the restaurants and shops. You can meet up with some of your neighbors, and you can see what the nonprofits in town are doing.”

This year has been particularly hard on small businesses, he noted, and Winterfest will offer a chance for the community to support the local economy.

“All of the big-box stores were able to stay open all year, but that wasn’t true for all small businesses,” he explained. “This is a great way to support them going into their holiday season, which for most is their busiest time of the year.”
