PANCAKE BREAKFAST

Mount Joy Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the basement social hall of Trinity Lutheran Church, 47 W. Main St., Mount Joy. Club members will serve all-you-can-eat pancakes, accompanied by sausage, scrambled eggs, juice, coffee and tea. Serving will begin at 6:30 a.m. and conclude at 10 a.m. Tickets are available from club members and at the door. The cost will be discounted for children ages 4 to 12. Children under age 4 will eat for free. Guests may park and enter at the back of the church.

SSC To Stage “The Crucible” By Chelsea Peifer

Susquehanna Stage Company (SSC) will perform “The Crucible,” Arthur Miller’s masterful 1953 American drama, as the debut play in the Eater Theater at the Marietta Center for the Arts, 133 W. Market St., Marietta. Set in Salem, Mass., “The Crucible” tells the fictionalized story of the witch trials that took place among the Massachusetts Bay Colonists in 1692. Performances are scheduled for Friday to Sunday, Oct. 25 to 27, and Thursday to Sunday, Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., with the exception of the Sunday shows, which will be at 2 p.m. Parking is available at the rear of the Marietta Center for the Arts. Director Kevin Ditzler described the themes of “The Crucible” as timeless and relevant. “(‘The Crucible’) looks at who is to blame in all of this, and the audience will be trying to figure out how people were duped into this,” Ditzler said. “We want the audience to feel the hysteria the people of Salem felt, and attempting to do that really excited me to take on this show.” Ditzler has 20 years of experience directing shows at Lampeter-Strasburg High School and has acted in numerous SSC performances. This will be his first time directing an SSC production. Rachel Snyder of Mount Joy will portray 17-year-old orphan Abigail Williams, who works as a live-in housekeeper for John and Elizabeth Proctor until she is kicked out by Elizabeth. “(Abigail) twists the truth so much and makes the whole town believe her lies,” Snyder said.
