Erin

Collins, the daughter of Paul and Gail Steinweg of Manheim, said her family likes to tease about their competitiveness. “We call it the ‘Steinweg gene,” joked Erin, who now lives in Mount Joy. “We are all driven.” She’s not kidding. Erin has competed in a variety of athletic events over the past few years, including an Ironman race in Madison, Wis., in September.

For that race, she completed a

triathlon of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. And she did it all in the pouring rain. “They told us it was the worst weather in the history of the competition,” Erin recalled. “There were only about five minutes along the course when we didn’t get rain.”

Through it all, she said she thought about giving up “all the time,” but then she’d glimpse her husband, Garrett, or other relatives along the route, and she’d feel renewed. “I had to tackle each mile one at a time,” she said. “Physically,

I knew I was in shape for it, but the race was a mental battle.”

Erin said finishing the Ironman, the longest race she’s ever completed, meant reaching a longtime goal. “It was always something on my bucket list,” said the 2015 Manheim Central graduate, who started running in high school. “I am the kind of person who, if there’s something great out there to achieve, I want to keep reaching for it.”

She has quite a few athletic accomplishments under her belt. She competed in the Boston Marathon in 2018 (also in terrible weather, she noted) and has run a T ough Mudder - a 12-hour overnight course through obstacles - in Chicago. She credits her mentor, Jim Wilson, with encouraging her to explore cycling, and she’s completed at least 20 century rides - that is, rides of 100 miles each.

Erin met her husband at a triathlon in Lititz in 2016, and they were married in 2020. Together, they have taken active roles in Lifecycles, a local nonprofit that encourages character development in youths through bike riding. The couple rode across America to raise funds for the organization. “I had always wanted to do a ride like that, but I didn’t want it to be self-serving,” Erin said. “I wanted to raise money to help others.”

W hen she’s not running, swimming or biking, Erin is busy interviewing for a job, having spent the past two years in graduate school to become a physician assistant. “I took the boards on Thursday, drove right out to Wisconsin to compete and found out I had passed the boards after finishing the Ironman,” she said. “It was a big 72 hours for me.”

Erin said she’s always looking ahead to her next race. Currently, she’s training to compete in a 50mile ultramarathon. “I love the challenge of competing,” she said. “I love the freeing feeling running gives me. It’s hard to explain, but it’s the best feeling.”

In the early morning hours, you may see a group of men working out at Rapho Township Community Park or at Mountville Community Park. What you might not know is that they’re doing more than exercising. They’re practicing the “three Fs.” As members of F3, the guys are engaging in fitness, fellowship and faith.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of F3 Lanco, the group will host a Manniversary workout at Rapho

T ownship Community Park, 960 Strickler Road, Mount Joy, on Saturday, Oct. 22. The workout will begin at 7 a.m. and will be followed by fellowship over coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Men of all ages and all fitness levels are invited to join the group.

Kevin Keel, who is in charge of recruitment for F3 Lanco, noted that the local group began when Gary Fyke relocated to the area from Chicago, where he had participated in an F3 group. F3 is a national network of free, peer-led

The Maytown Historical Society recently opened its museum to the public after having been closed since 2020, and now the organization could use your support. The group will host a fall breakfast and bake sale to benefit the operation and restoration of the museum. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the backyard of the museum, 4 W. High St., Maytown.

From The Editor’s

Since 1940, National Newspaper Week has been observed the first full week in October, so I thought it appropriate to share my thoughts on why supporting your local newspaper is more important than ever.

It’s a popular notion that the internet has marked the downfall of community newspapers. And, while many have stopped publishing due to tough economic times, the rising cost of newsprint, and other factors, your community newspapers can do something the internet can’t: We promote connections at a

local level. Some say that because people can tweet, blog, surf, shop, and search online, no one reads newspapers anymore, but you just proved that to be a myth. Rather than being replaced by all the noise of “instant” media, your free local paper has become more important than ever. We are a part of your neighborhood. We shine a spotlight on people and organizations that make your town a better place to live, work, and

play. No, they probably won’t get a million views on TikTok, but they are heroes who live down the street and are making a positive difference in our community.

In the past year the publisher of this newspaper, Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. (EPC) has featured more than 1,500 front-page articles benefiting more than 1,000 local nonprofit organizations in Lancaster, Chester, Berks, York, and Dauphin coun-

ties. Those numbers don’t take into account the thousands of press releases that make their way into our papers each year.

With all the talk about social media, why do we continue to publish free community newspapers? It’s who we are and who we’ve been for nearly 70 years. We live here, too, and we want to keep our communities thriving as much as you do.

If you know of an organization or individual making a positive impact on your community, contact us at news@engleonline.com or visit https://townlively.com/event -submission to submit an event.

workouts that began in 2006 with a mission “to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.” Each F3 meeting follows five core principles: It is free of charge, it’s open to all men, it’s held outdoors rain or shine, it’s peer led and it ends in a Circle of Trust. As Keel explained, the Circle of Trust is a time of prayer and an opportunity to build camaraderie among the participants. Each workout concludes with coffee and time for fellowship.

Keel joined F3 Lanco three years ago after he was introduced to the group by a friend. “I immediately loved it, the encouragement of the guys,” he said. “One of the things that attracted me the most is that this is not a judgmental group. We’re encouraging.”

Keel noted that his teenage son often joins him for workouts and that the group has members of all ages, from boys younger than his son to men in their 60s and 70s.

“This is open to anyone, even if you’ve never worked out before. There is something for everyone,” he stated. “You can modify the workout however you need to.”

Over the years, the group has experienced some memorable workouts due to the F3 policy of never canceling no matter the weather. A few years ago, when the guys arrived at the Rapho Park after a snowstorm, they realized the parking lot hadn’t been plowed, but they didn’t let that stop them. “We were running and doing all kinds of things, including bear crawls, out in the snow,” Keel said with a laugh.

Keel encourages anyone with an interest in working out or making friends to come to the Manniversary event. “It’s really more than a workout,” he remarked. “It’s really a network of friends that I’ve built, and these guys are my best friends. I went from not having many guy friends to having a lot of them. I can honestly say it’s changed my life.”

F3 Lanco meets at Rapho Township Community Park at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, at 5:30 a.m. on Thursdays and at 7 a.m. on Saturdays. The group meets at Mountville Community Park, 351 N. Lemon St., at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and 7 a.m. on Saturdays. For more information on F3 Lanco, visit www.f3lanco.com or email f3lanco@f3lanco.com.

Breakfast

As historical society president Skip Nell explained, the organization held a breakfast for a number of years indoors at a local church, but for the first breakfast since reopening after COVID, the group decided to host it at the museum. The menu will feature scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit cups, juice and coffee.

A bake sale will also be held, spotlighting items made by historical society members. “The bake sale will have a fall theme,” Nell said. “We’ll have apple pies, pumpkin pies, pumpkin whoopies and things like that.” He noted that people can drop by to purchase bake sale items without attending the breakfast or can buy bake sale items to go after breakfast.

The Maytown Historical Society exists to protect and preserve the history of the town, Nell stated. The building it’s housed in dates to the 1760s. “We’re looking at creating an area for archiving and storage of items we receive from society members and the community,” he remarked, adding that the area will most likely be located off-site since the society’s goal is to restore the museum’s interior to be period authentic.

The museum will be open during the breakfast for people to peruse the collection of items, including the current exhibit of coverlets.

Advance ticket purchase is requested for the breakfast. Tickets may be purchased by calling Skip Nell at 717-426-3254 or Jane Garber at 717-940-0037.

It’s All About The Albatwitch

He looks sort of like a baby Bigfoot, and he’s rumored to live somewhere in the Columbia area. He also loves apples. He’s the Albatwitch, and he’ll be celebrated at the ninth annual Albatwitch Day, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 8. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Columbia River Park, 41 Walnut St.

“This is a multifaceted event,” said Rick Fisher, who is organizing the festival with Chris Vera. “There is so much happening.”

Although the official festival does not begin until 11 a.m., Vera noted that Ryan Sexton will be giving tours of the dungeon below the Columbia Market House, 15 S. Third St., from 9 a.m. to noon. “It’s a nice way to give people a taste of the Market House before they head to the river,” he stated.

The festival will feature speakers, authors, live music, vendors and more. The Susquehanna National Heritage Area will offer free Wilderness Inquiry Canoemobile tours on the Susquehanna River from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a fleet of 24-foot, 10-passenger canoes. Trolley

Women’s Group To Begin 35th Year

The 35th year of Neighbors Sharing and Caring will start on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Chiques Church, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim. Women of all ages and preschool children are invited to attend from 9 to 10:45 a.m. The gathering will include devotions, special music, and a brunch.

This year, the group will explore how God created people not by chance but in His image; to praise, honor, and glorify Him; to fellowship with Him; to do good works; to love their neighbors and to be His hands and feet; to have unique gifts and talents; and to become more like Christ day by day.

Classes are provided for children from infants to prekindergartners. Readers may contact Bonnie at 717361-2613 or Veronica at 717-626-7603 for more information.

tours will run throughout the day, giving participants a chance to hear some of the history of the area. From 7 to 9 p.m., haunted trolley tours will be featured. “We’ll also have ‘Alba’ at the festival,” Vera said. “She’ll be dressed up like the Albatwitch, and she’ll carry a basket of apples. People can take selfies with her.”

Vera estimated there will be more than 50 vendors on-site f or the festival, featuring everything from handmade jewelry to food. “We’ll have a variety of nonprofits and organizations represented, including Raven Ridge

Wildlife Center, which is always very popular,” said Fisher. “They’ll be bringing some of their animals.” The Indian Steps Museum will have a table, and the Lancaster PA Ghostbusters will be onsite. Local churches, including Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, will operate food stands. Live music will be perf ormed by Dillweed, Stone Soup, Sound Method and Tang Moon.

Inside Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, a variety of speakers will present programs. Speakers will include Mary Fabian, founder of the

Pennsylvania Bigfoot Project; Eric Altman, executive director of the PA Bigfoot Society; and Tim Renner, creator of the “Strange Familiars” podcast.

Vera noted that Albatwitch Day draws visitors from all over the East Coast, as far away as Virginia, New York and New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Columbia Historic Preservation Society, located at 21 N. Second St.

“You’ll have a good time at this event,” Fisher said. “If you don’t want to learn more about the Albatwitch, you can listen to music or eat or shop or take a canoe ride or a trolley tour. There’s really something for everybody.”

Phillips Scores Game Winner Against McCaskey

The Donegal girls’ soccer team remained unbeaten in Lancaster-Lebanon League play thanks to a 1-0 shutout of McCaskey on Thursday, September 22.

The first half goal by Gina Phillips, which came off an assist from fellow senior Laken Merchant, provided all the offense Donegal needed for the win.

Donegal improved to 5-2-3 overall with a 4-1 victory over Eastern York two days later.

“After a slow start, I felt we got going and put pressure on Eastern York, enabling us to get our midfield further up the field,” head coach Adam Morris commented. “Gina Phillips scored on two longrange efforts.

“Once we were ahead, we were able to rest a few of the senior players,” continued the coach. “I was happy overall. We just need to start games quicker and with better fluidity.”

The team stayed unbeaten in L-L League play with a 10-0 defeat of Lebanon on Wednesday. Donegal improved to 4-03 in the league

GIRLS’ TENNIS

It was Senior Night on Monday, September 26, for

the Donegal girls’ tennis team. The Indians posted a 70 victory, improving to 4-3 in L-L League play (6-4 overall).

“We’ve played some tough matches, but the team has been playing well,” head coach Trent Hoffmaster stated.

Kensington Edmond and Corrine Watson teamed for an 8-3 number one doubles win.

Janelle Kingsboro and Emily Frownfelter were a winning duo (8-0) at number two doubles with Hannah Sloboien and Andrea Hess taking the third match 8-1.

Edmond also came through with straight set win at number one singles (6-4, 6-0) followed by straight set wins by Kingsboro, Watson and Frownfelter.

“All of the girls have been improving,” Hoffmaster commented. “Janelle Kingsboro has the best singles record on the team. Hannah Slobozien is rushing the net well. Hannah and Andrea are steadily improving at the net.”

Donegal was coming off a 7-0 defeat of Lebanon at home on September 22.

Edmond and Watson were 8-3 winners and the twosomes of Wallace/Kingsboro and Slobozien/Hess each won 8-1.

Edmond dominated the number one singles 6-1, 6-0 -

Berks Catholic and Donegal went head-to-head in a defense-dominated Section Four battle on Friday night, September 23. The Saints limited the visiting Indians to only a first-half field goal and a Noah Rohrer touchdown in the third quarter as they held on for a 21-9 victory.

“We had the ball inside the 10-yard line two times and came away with only three

points,” head coach Chad Risberg explained. “That hurt us.”

Offensively, the difference proved to be Josiah Jordan. The senior tailback led all rushers with 106 yards on 16 carries, which included two touchdowns from inside the Donegal five-yard line.

Heading into the fourth quarter, it was a six-point game with the Saints up 15-9. Jordan’s 56-yard punt return gave the Saints their 21-9 advantage.

Donegal drew first blood, going up 3-0 on Rohrer’s 28yard field goal in the second stanza. The Saints gained a 7-3

advantage before halftime on Jordan’s one-yard plunge and a PAT by Andrew Kurtas.

Donegal regained the lead on Rohrer’s rushing touchdown, making it 9-7 in the third quarter. But Donegal did not maintain the lead into the final period thanks to the second Jordan score and a twopoint PAT.

“The kids played hard,” Risberg said. “We are getting better each week.”

FIELD HOCKEY

With a solid performance at Cedar Crest on Monday, September 26, the Indians claimed their first league win of the year (3-7-0 overall).

A second-period goal by Kate Page put Donegal on the winning path. Marie Gehman, who also had an assist on the day, made it 2-0 in the third period. Makayla Ober capped the scoring for her team at the 6:41 mark of the fourth.

Natalie Coldwell also chipped in with an assist.

Ella Miller grabbed one save. Her teammates out-shot the Falcons 15-2.

“The girls are working hard at practice as well as in games,” said head coach Gina Allessie. “We have been working on finishing the scoring opportunities provided - framing up the goal, sticks down and being aggressive inside.”

The Indians lost to Ephrata 2-0 the previous Thursday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

The Indians fell to 3-3-0 in league play with a loss at Cocalico on Monday, September 26. The Eagles scored twice in the first half

and held the 2-0 lead for the eventual margin of victory.

Managing only four shots on goal was the famine after the feast Donegal’s soccer team had enjoyed in its two previous matches where the squad scored 14 goals, featuring two hat tricks by L.D. Hanes.

The first of these matches came in a 7-3 victory over league rival Solanco on the road, Thursday, September 22.

The Indians already had built a 3-0 lead by the time the Mules got on the scoreboard. Hanes scored six minutes into the match and doubled the lead three minutes after the midway point of the opening half. Brody Bonham and Tye White provided those assists.

Josh Ledich assisted Emiliano Santos Bernaldez for goal number three.

Bonham made it 4-1 Donegal as Hanes returned the favor with an assist of his own.

White had a goal and two assists in the second half, scoring off an Aiden Dickinson assist in the 59th minute while aiding Travis Zimmerman on his goal and feeding Hanes for the goal that completed the hat trick.

Keegan Cote had three saves for Donegal.

The Indians improved to 82-0 with their 7-0 shutout of Eastern York on Saturday, September 24. Along with his hat trick Hanes had two assists.

Aiden Weber, who netted one goal, and White each recorded two assists. Bonham (1 g, 1 asst) and Travis Zimmerman (2 goals) also contributed.

New cars have been costly for quite some time, but those costs have spiked considerably since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic. That unprecedented rise may lead many motorists to wonder how they can get more mileage out of their existing vehicles. According to data from Kelley Blue Book and Cox Automotive, the average cost of a new car in September 2021 was just over $45,000. That marked a $3,000 increase from June 2021 and a $5,000 increase from the end of 2020.

Drivers who may not be able to afford the cost of a new vehicle can take the following steps to keep their existing cars running smoothly for years to come.

- Take care of the timing belt. Engines may get all the glory, but they cannot run smoothly without a fully functional timing belt, which helps to synchronize movements of various components. Owner’s manuals may note when to replace the timing belt, but they generally must be replaced every 60,000 to 105,000 miles. Although replacement is required infrequently, drivers can ask their mechanics to keep an eye on their timing belts. During the early months of the pandemic, many people learned that infrequent driving can cause a timing belt to fail before it reaches the projected mile marker. Aging drivers should keep this fact in mind if they do not drive as much as they used to.

- Take care of the brakes and associated components. The experts at Popular Mechanics urge drivers of older vehicles to replace their brake fluid every two years.

Popular Mechanics also advises drivers whose cars are more than seven years old to replace the rubber brake lines when major brake work is required.

- Pay attention to oil levels. The older engines get, the more oil they burn. For this reason, owners of older vehicles should check their oil levels more often than they would if their vehicles were brand new. These checks also provide a way to discover leaks before they lead to potentially significant issues.

- Don’t skip maintenance appointments. Even if you’re still driving less due to the pan-

demic, it’s best to keep up with maintenance on any car, especially if the car is older. Routine tune-ups and oil changes, which may need to become more frequent the older the vehicle gets, can keep cars running smoothly and protect the engine over the long haul.

The rising cost of new cars may compel people to keep their cars longer than they might have anticipated. A few simple maintenance measures may help to prolong the life of a vehicle.

Headlight glare becomes dangerous when visibility is impaired to a point where the risk of accidents is heightened. Glare is a growing problem for many modern drivers due to the increased use of light emitting diodes in headlights.

Driving at night is challenging because pedestrians, cars and other obstacles are difficult to see once the sun sets, and headlight glare can cause further problems. A study from the U.S. Department of Transportation found that 88% of drivers noticed LED and HID headlight glare. While LED lights may not actually be brighter, their “cool” color temperature can make them appear so. Studies have found that blue and white light tends to hit people’s eyes harder, especially at night.

In addition, human eyes do not adjust to changes in light-

ing very quickly, according to Pierre Paul Driving School in New York City. The older a person gets, the longer his or her eyes take to adjust to changes in lighting. In fact, it can take up to seven seconds to recover from the blinding glare of headlights. That’s enough time to swerve off the road or potentially hit something. While glare can be problematic, drivers can take steps to make nighttime driving safer.

- Clean the windshield. Dirt and grime found on the windshield can refract light and make glare worse. Therefore, clean all windows and mirrors thoroughly, inside and out. - Repair scratches and cracks. Glare can be exacerbated by any imperfections in the windshield. Repair cracks or scratches promptly.

- Get a vision and health check. Changes to vision can impact how glare affects certain

individuals. Vitamin A deficiency can cause night blindness, also known as nyctalopia. Eye shape changes, including a condition called keratoconus, can affect vision. Cataracts and diabetes can also impair vision.

Visit a primary care physician as well as an eye doctor to check for conditions that can make night vision worse.

- Change your line of sight. Do not look directly into oncoming headlights. Rather, look slightly down and to the right side of the road so that you are not focusing on the beams.

- Get glare-resistant coatings on eyeglasses. Speak with an optician about eyeglasses with a coating that can reduce the amount of glare. VisionCenters.com says standard plastic lenses reflect around 8% of the

light that reaches glasses, while high-index lenses reflect up to 12% of available light. Antiglare coating allows 99.5% of available light to reach the eyes, essentially eliminating glare. Those who don’t wear eyeglasses can purchase special anti-glare glasses to wear in high-glare conditions, such as when looking at computer and phone screens.

- Flip your rearview mirror to night mode, if you have this option. This setting will make it appear as though lights coming from behind are dimmer.

- Take breaks. When glare makes driving difficult, take a break to help your eyes recover. These are some of the steps people may take when glare becomes problematic while driving at night.

A Big Show In A Small Space

Jordan Scott Gilbert, director of the Cavod Theatre production of “A Tale of Two Cities,” thinks that staging the musical in the small theater will only enhance the telling.

“It’s a big show that we are trying to make intimate in this small space, which is great for storytelling,” said Gilbert, who was the assistant producer of the show on Broadway. Gilbert chose “A Tale of Two Cities” along with Cavod artistic director Monica

DePaul and Connie Dienner, director of Cavod Performing Arts.

“A Tale of Two Cities” will be presented at the Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland, with a special opening night themed dinner theater at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Cocktail attire is requested for this red carpet event. The show will also be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 15 and 22; and at 4 p.m. on Sundays, Oct. 16 and 23.

“A Tale of Two Cities” with book, music, and lyrics by Jill Santoriello is based on Charles Dickens’ 1859 novel that tells the tale of a love triangle. The story focuses on the beautiful Lucie Manette, played by Jackie Zliczewski; French aristocrat Charles Darnay, played by Alexander Weaver; and English cynic Sydney Carton, played by Bryant Martin. Walter Winston O’Neill, who took part in the Broadway production, will play Dr. Manette. Alicia Burton will play Miss Pross, and Hannah Rau will portray Madame Defarge. Set during the French Revolution, the story encompasses love and redemption in a way that parallels Cavod’s mission. The show is choreographed by Stephanie Brooks Martin, with musical direction by Amy Rau. Glen Brodersen of Sight & Sound Theatre is handling the set.

Calling the show “ vocally challenging,” Gilbert relayed that the cast is doing a “really awesome job.” “There are

CROSS COUNTRY

The Donegal girls outran Solanco 21-36 at home in a Section Two race on Tuesday, September 27.

The Indians (3-2) placed four runners among the top five finishers, including the winner of the race, Molly Myers. She posted a time of

some cast members who are perfect for their roles,” he noted of the cast of nearly 30. “My point of view with the storyline is God working in people, specifically the lead character (of Sydney Carton) to bring him to a place of faith,” continued Gilbert. “I think it will be very moving and show the audience the depths people will go to save those that they love.”

Dienner said that the show is a bit different for Cavod because there are dark moments. “It can be hard to find shows with redemptive meaning,” she said, adding, “To show the redemption, you have to show the evil.” Dienner said the show is for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. She compared the show to another classic by Victor Hugo, “Les Miserables.” “It has a lot of the same feel (because) it’s speaking from the heart,” said Dienner.

Tickets, which are discounted for students, may be purchased at www.cavod.org or by emailing info@cafod.org or calling 717-354-3355.

20:09.5 - a blink of an eye ahead of Rayahna Clerico (20:09.7).

Taking fourth for the Indians was Marleigh Ballard. Addison Houck (5th), Emma Myers (9th) and Bailey Shoaf (10th) rounded out the top 10.

The boys improved to 4-1 out-running Solanco 24-37.

Solanco’s Wyatt Tomison won the race in 17:58, ahead of Donegal’s John Spackman (18:18) in second place.

Braden Bistline, John Hinkle, Brandon Marcelo, Micah Brydon, Dylan Lenhart and Cadel Barber finished fourth through ninth, respectively.

Members of the cast of the Cavod Theatre production of “A Tale of Two Cities” are rehearsing the musical under the direction of Jordan Scott Gilbert.

Servant Stage Plans Season Preview

Servant Stage will present First Look Jr. on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster. The event will celebrate highlights of the 2022 Youth Theatre season and feature the unveiling of 2023 season of Youth Theatre shows, camps, and programs as well as the presentation of a $1,000 arts scholarship for a graduating senior. The performance will feature highlights from the recent youth productions of “The Lion King Jr.,” “Frozen Jr.,” “Annie Jr.,” “Matilda Jr.,” and “Our Town.” Artistic director Wally Calderon noted that in prior years, both the youth and MainStage programs were announced at the First Look Extravaganza, but they will now be broken out into separate events.

Registration for all of the 2023 youth programs will open immediately after the event, with early registration incentives through Thursday, Dec. 1. Families are encouraged to register early as programs fill up quickly.

In 2016, Servant Stage offered its first summer musical theater camp, “Godspell Jr.,” taking more than two dozen students through an entire production process, from auditioning to a full performance, in one week. The students then took the show “on tour” to local retirement communities to experience Servant Stage’s model of making theater accessible to those unable to go out to see shows.

Six years later, Servant Stage’s Youth Theatre program has experienced the most exponential growth of any area in the organization. In the last year, Servant Stage offered two winter youth productions and three summer theater camps - all filled to capacity with more than 300 total students involved and over 150 students on waiting lists - as well as a Teen Company, Apprentice, Company, and Junior Company for students who trained weekly with local instructors throughout the summer. Servant Stage continues to offer weekly pay-what-you-will theater classes every Monday night for youths of all ages, reaching over 350 students in the past year.

First Look Jr. is free and open to the public, and tickets can be reserved at www.servant stage.org or by calling 717455-0255.

Servant Stage’s full 2023 MainStage season will be announced during the First Look Extravaganza, a live online event on Friday, Nov. 18, in conjunction with the ExtraGive. All performances are offered at paywhat-you-will prices as part of Servant Stage’s mission to make great performances accessible to everyone in the community. For more information, visit the aforementioned website.

Servant Stage is a nonprofit theater that has served Lancaster County since 2011 and brings entertainment to over 50,000 audience members each year.
