Stauffers of Kissel Hill held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 19 at its new Stauffers Fresh Foods store in the Mount Joy Square Shopping Center.
Stauffers of Kissel Hill opened a new Stauffers Fresh Foods store on May 19 at 945 E. Main St. in the Mount Joy Square Shopping Center. The store officially opened at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its entrance.
The new location will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and it marks the third Fresh Foods focus store for Stauffers, joining its Lititz and Rohrerstown locations.
More than 100 team members joined the Stauffers Mount Joy team, led by store manager John Welsh. Welsh has 40 years of experience with Stauffers and previously served as the Lititz Fresh Foods store manager.
Eric Stauffer, Fresh Foods chief operating officer, said, “This 45,000square-foot store has been completely renovated. The store layout was designed with the customer at the top of mind and offers a complete shopping experience that you come to expect from Stauffers.” There are numerous special features of the new Mount Joy store. Its produce department offers fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, beverages, and fresh-cut options. The full-service meat department features onsite butchers that custom cut for the customer’s oven, grill, or pan. The seafood department offers fresh and frozen seafood fillets, shellfish, seafood salads, and dips. At the deli, shoppers will find meats and cheeses from Stauffers’ signature line and local vendors, plus Stauffers’ gourmet line of domestic and imported meats and cheese and Mediterranean fare. The bakery offers an array of signature artisan baked goods, desserts, and cakes, and cake decorators are available to create beautiful designs for any special occasion. Additionally, the bulk foods section features a selection of sweets, snacks, and dry ingredients for cooking and baking. Bulk coffee and tea selections are also available from local roasters Whiff Roasters and East Indies. Natural and organic products, as well as thousands of locally sourced products, are found throughout the store as well. For shoppers looking for an easy meal option, Stauffers offers a number of signature selections to go: made-to-order brick oven pizza and handcrafted sandwiches, rotisserie chicken and fried chicken, and Grab & Go complete meal offerings. In addition, Hissho Sushi is handrolled daily in the store. In midsummer, Stauffers’ Under the Tent seasonal food events will take place on weekends. New to the Mount Joy store, fresh-popped popcorn and a coffee bar will be available as customers enter the store. Stauffers also offers online grocery shopping, with pickup and delivery options available. “In 1932, my grandfather opened a roadside produce stand in Lititz. Our company proudly continues to build on this legacy,” shared Stauffer, noting that he is the third generation of his family to be involved with the business. “We couldn’t be more thankful for our customers, team members, and leadership that made this new store possible, and we’re very excited to bring the Stauffers Fresh Foods experience to Mount Joy and the surrounding communities. Our shoppers know and trust us, and they can expect to receive the same excellent customer service at the Mount Joy store that we offer at our Lititz and Rohrerstown locations. We look forward to welcoming you to our new Mount Joy store.” To learn more, visit www.skh.com.

Contemporary voices and diverse stories will take the spotlight in a series of staged readings to be held at Susquehanna Stage. “The Undercurrent” will feature four readings and will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, with “Tigers Be Still.”
“We wanted to find a way to highlight some of these more contemporary pieces of theater, titles you don’t necessarily see in other theaters’ mainstage shows,” explained Asher Johnson, who is the producer of the series and the director of “Tigers Be Still.” “We wanted to create an atmosphere not only for theater lovers, but also for educators and people in the community to see stories on stage that reflect the people in our community.”
“Tigers Be Still” features a cast of four and focuses on a young woman, Sherry, who is finding her footing in a new job while moving back into her childhood home with her mother and sister.
Bob Checchia, who plays Joe, Sherry’s boss, said the show highlights some unusual characters. “The timing and rhythm of this show keeps it flowing with short scenes and dialogue that is quick and fast,” he noted. “There is a quirkiness to the characters.”
And, Johnson added, “While everything is happening with the characters in the show, there is a tiger on the loose during all of this.”
He said although the show is a staged reading, audiences should expect a fully formed performance. “The only difference is the actors are going to be holding their scripts in their hands,” he explained. “I didn’t require them to memorize their lines, but there will be lighting cues, sound cues, costumes, blocking, all the things you’d expect to see on stage.”
Each performance in “The Undercurrent” will also include a partnership with local organizations or theater companies that reflect the values of each play. “Tigers Be Still” focuses on mental health, and the show will feature a question-andanswer session afterward with members of WellSpan Philhaven. Although the performance is free, donations will be accepted for the organization as well.
Additional plays in the stagedreading series are “Pipeline” on Saturday, July 10; “Native Gardens” on Saturday, Aug. 21; and “Blackbird” on Saturday, Nov. 6. Shows will be performed on the theater’s Gallery Stage. Susquehanna Stage is located at 133 W. Market St., Marietta. For more information, visit www.susquehannastage.com.
