The maypole is centered in the town square. Penny candy is priced at just a penny. The hoops are gathered for hoop rolling and graces. Clearly, the Maytown Historical Society (MHS) members are preparing for Mayfest, a lively celebration of the town’s May 1, 1760, founding. Mayfest’s familyfriendly festivities will take place on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the MHS Museum, 4 W. High St., and throughout the town square. All are welcome, and former residents are encouraged to return to reconnect with the town and residents. The museum, with its many artifacts, will be open for visitors throughout the event and will have breakfast sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, and homebaked goods available for purchase See Mayfest pg 8

“Mulch Madness,” Yard Sale To Benefit Church Youth Group By Francine Fulton
Members of the Maytown Historical Society Mayfest Committee (from left) Autumn Kingsboro, Pat Vogel, Linda Good, Deb Gepfer, Janie Garber, and Kathy Vogt invite the community to join in the fun and festivities on May 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as they celebrate Maytown’s founding and unique history.
Just in time for spring, Marietta Community Chapel, 1125 River Road, Marietta, will hold its annual Mulch Madness and community yard sale on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will benefit the Marietta Chapel youth group. Small bags of mulch will be for sale at the event, and there will also be a yard sale and a plant sale. When nursery teacher Dawn realized that Sherry, the mother of one of her students, was on the verge of homelessness, she connected her to Bridge of Hope @ Good Samaritan Services (GSS). The program saved Sherry, the mother of four, after a family conflict jeopardized their living arrangement. Dawn also pulled together a “neighboring” group at their church, which became an essential support system for Sherry during her two years in the Bridge of Hope program.
