MCCL’s goal is to train singers to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral music while fostering character and community.

inception in 2018, while others are new this year.

“We have some historical railroads coming,” Royal remarked. “We have amusement parks, museums and historic sites.”

Many of the vendors will feature giveaways for items ranging from day passes to overnight trips.

The grand prize children’s giveaway will be an eight pack of all-day passes to DelGrosso’s Amusement Park & Laguna Splash Water Park in Tipton.

The grand prize giveaway, sponsored by Visit Potter-Tioga, will feature a four-night stay for four at the Penn Wells Lodge in Wellsboro, plus vouchers for covered wagon tours, gift cards to local businesses and spending money for the trip.

Topaz Balloons will be on-site providing balloon art from 10 a.m. to noon, and face painting will be offered by Jain Falcon from 1 to 3 p.m.

At noon, Clyde Peeling’s

Reptiland will present an educational show.

“(The Clyde Peeling’s representative) usually brings big snakes and other reptiles,” Royal said. “Last year, he brought a baby crocodile. His show is very popular.”

Mascots - including Echo the bat from Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks as well as Johnny the Long John from Achenbach’s Pastries - will also roam the event and will be available for pictures.

Royal initiated the idea for the PA Family Travel Fair in 2017 when she realized the wealth of vacation resources right in our state.

“The state of PA markets to outside areas,” she said.

“We’re not going to see commercials for our own state. I want to give people new ideas of places they can visit in their home state.”

According to the most recent statistics, tourism brings in $76 billion to the Pennsylvania economy, Royal said.

“That’s ‘billion’ with a ‘b.’ Tourism is a big economic driver,” she stated. “It’s $4.7 billion in state and local taxes, and that’s huge. We want to keep those tax dollars here. We want to encourage people to keep their money in the state.”

And if you don’t want to travel far this summer,

don’t worry. Local attractions will be represented at the fair as well. Elizabethtown-based Stone Gables Estate, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronks and Oregon Dairy in Lititz are just a few of the local participants.

Over the years, Royal has

enjoyed watching people return annually to the event to learn more about what’s in our state, and she likes seeing people discover something new.

“I think people are shocked at all the things you can do in Pennsylvania,” she said. “People don’t know that Jimmy Stewart was from Indiana, Pa., and there is a whole museum dedicated to him there. They do an ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ festival in the winter. … We have beaches in Pennsylvania, too. Presque Isle Park in Erie has 13 beaches, including Sunset Beach, which has the most gorgeous sunsets you’ll ever see.”

Above all, she noted, the PA Family Travel Fair is a family-friendly,

fun way to learn more and find vacation ideas.

“There’s no selling, no pressure,” Royal said. “You don’t have to buy anything or sign up for anything. Just come, have a conversation with the vendors and pick up information to start planning your next trip.”

PennDOT seeks feedback from the public

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking the public’s feedback on the agency’s services this winter at www.sur veymonkey.com/r/2025 PDWinter. The survey will be available through Monday, April 28, and should take about five minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous.

The 16-question survey asks respondents about their timeline expectations for safe and passable roadways, how they rank snow-removal priorities,

and how they rate PennDOT’s winter services. Respondents are also asked how they receive PennDOT roadway information and whether or how they use the state’s 511PA traveler information services. During the winter, www.511pa.com offers its standard traffic and incident information while adding PennDOT plow-truck locations, winter roadway conditions, and other services.

a bingo before,” said head varsity coach Kellye Herbert. “We thought it was a great way to showcase our team with the community while also adding some fun, because who doesn’t love some purses and power tools?”

Admission to bingo will include three cards and 25 games.

“We will feature purses from Coach, Michael Kors, lululemon, Vera Bradley, Bogg and Kate Spade, as well as power tools from Milwaukee and DeWalt,” Herbert said.

Gift cards from local restaurants will also be among the prizes.

Several giveaways will be featured, including a 50/50 plus a chance to win coolers, a purse and a power tool.

“You can also ask the team to do a stunt for a donation,” Herbert stated.

A variety of food will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, subs, chips, drinks and baked goods.

“The proceeds of this event support our booster club in funding our athletes for cheer camp and to offset the cost of traveling to Orlando, Fla., for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) national championship in the spring of 2026,” Herbert shared.

the Arm of Hope camp in Ghana, which provides weeklong camps for students of elementary and high school age. Camp provides an opportunity for children to get out of the slums of Ghana and have fun, all while learning about the love of Jesus.

“This will be the 11th year for the camp,” Grove shared. “The first year, there were 190 campers over two weeks. This year, from July 27 to Aug. 8, we are expecting 1,000!”

Arm of Hope is a ministry that provides food, education and health care to children in need.

“The goal of the camp is to give kids an all-day Bible school-type experience ... with a safe place to get three meals a day; a mattress to sleep on; fun games; sports; Bible lessons; worship; crafts;

team had an exciting and successful year that combined competition with community service.

“We volunteered in our community by making over 100 ‘go bags’ for the shelter in Elizabethtown; marching in the Marietta Memorial Day parade; and cheering on our football, basketball and wrestling teams,” said Herbert, who is joined in leading the team by assistant coach Jaema Bonte.

The team, which featured 12 athletes, attended 11 competitions between August and February, including its second year attending the PIAA district event, where the group finished in sixth place in its division.

That win earned the team the opportunity to advance to the state championship held at the Santander Arena in Reading in February.

“Facing over 40 teams in our division, it was an honor just to be in attendance with the best of the best our state has to offer,” Herbert recalled. “The team did not advance to semifinals, but the experience was outstanding with a zero-deduction routine.”

The team also attended the Keystone Regional competition in Reading, earning sixth place and a bid to attend the UCA national championship in Orlando.

“The team finished out the year strong with National Cheerleading Association’s Reach the Beach mini nationals in Ocean City, Md., for a weekend of great competition,” she said, adding that the team brought home a second-place win in one division and a third-place win in another.

While the team performed well at competitions, the athletes also shined academically, Herbert said.

“The DHS cheer team takes the ‘student-athlete’ part of our program very seriously with an overall team GPA of 3.90, making our team competitive on the mat, sideline and in the classroom,” she noted.

Herbert invites people to attend the bingo to have fun and help the team members continue to compete.

“Come support the Donegal cheer team,” she said. “We look forward to hosting you and watching our community walk away with fun prizes.”

Tickets for the bingo may be purchased from any high school or junior high school member of the cheerleading team or by emailing donegalcheerbooster @outlook.com. There is a discount for purchasing tickets in advance, but tickets will also be available at the door.

Scholarship and tuition waiver programs posted

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is accepting student applications for the 2025-26 Grow Pennsylvania Scholarship Grant Program, more commonly known as the Grow PA Grant.

The Grow PA Grant Program was authorized under Act 89 of 2024 to help reverse the trend of young Pennsylvanians seeking education and job opportunities in other states. The program offers grants of up to $5,000 per year for in-state students who attend college in Pennsylvania, pursue a degree in an in-demand occupation, and agree to work in that occupation in Pennsylvania after

graduation.

Grant recipients will be required to work in Pennsylvania for 12 months for each year they receive the grant; failure to meet this requirement will result in the grant’s being converted to a loan that must be repaid.

PHEAA will administer the program for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, working with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I), the Independent Fiscal Office, and other stakeholders.

The application and a list of eligible programs of study or majors can be found at www.pheaa.org/ growpa.

In addition, PHEAA

joins Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) in administering the Grow PA Tuition Waiver Program, which allows eligible nonresident PASSHE students pursuing in-demand occupations to pay tuition at an in-state rate rather than an out-ofstate rate.

Students selected for the Grow PA Tuition Waiver Program are required to work in Pennsylvania for 12 months of each academic year for which they received a tuition waiver; failure to meet this requirement will result in the tuition waiver’s being converted to a loan that must be repaid.

More information on this program is forthcoming.

Roberts to raise funds for PBCC

Jim Roberts of Mount Joy will compete in the 2025 One Lap of America. His participation will support the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC). This year his transit driver will be Rich Grant, a member of the Northern Virginia Corvette Club. Roberts and Grant will use Roberts’ new orange Corvette and travel to race tracks in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan before returning to Indiana. Roberts will do all the competitive driving on the tracks, and Grant will help to drive

the highway miles and maintain the car.

The duo will travel about 2,700 miles for the event and almost 4,000 miles by the time he arrives back home in just over a week. Along the way they will compete against about 90 other teams.

This will be Roberts’ 16th time competing in One Lap of America. Over the past several years, he has raised more than $50,000 in total

for PBCC. In October at the PBCC’s pre-conference Pink Party at the Hilton Hotel, Roberts received the Pennsylvania Shining Light Award for raising more than $50,000.

West Main Auto, 14 W. Main St., Mount Joy.

Roberts will place a sticker on the roof of the Corvette in honor of each person who donates. The donor’s name or the name of someone the donor wishes to honor or memorialize will appear on the sticker.
