Members of the Closely Knit group at the Milanof-Schock Library
Stitching Together losely Knit is the perfect name for a group that gathers twice a month at the Milanof-Schock Library. Not only do the group members work on yarn projects such as knitting and crocheting, but they also spend time bonding. “We really enjoy ourselves here,” said Sue Gantz, a longtime member of the group. “It’s a couple of hours out and a chance to get away from it all to talk, to laugh and to just enjoy each other’s company.” Closely Knit meets from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.

“Art is a great medium to use to bring people out and start interesting conversations,” said Dave Schell, executive director of Main Street Mount Joy. With that in mind, the organization is hosting the Festival of the Arts from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29. The festival will take place within businesses throughout the downtown Mount Joy area. “We have approximately 10 locations downtown that are hosting artists,” Schell explained. “This is a family-friendly, free art walk. We station artists inside downtown businesses and ask the artists to stay with their work for the duration of the show. You are able to talk to the artists, look over their work and ask them questions about their technique, inspiration, background, etc. It’s a great way to get introduced to art.”
