Rotary Club Awards Grants The Rotary Club of West Chester recently awarded grants totaling $36,000 to local charities during a lunch meeting held at the West Chester Golf and Country Club. The grant money was raised from proceeds of the Rotary Club’s annual chili cook-off, which is held each fall in West Chester. On hand to accept the donations were the following representatives of area charities: Beverly Raspanti, Chester County Children Inc.; Victoria Dow, West Chester Public Library; Capt. Jesus Corraliza and Capt. The Rotary Club of West Chester presented grants totaling $36,000 to representatives of area charities. Each year, a chili cook-off is sponsored by the Rotary Club of West Chester to benefit local charities as well as Rotary causes. This year, the 17th annual event took place on Oct. 13 in downtown West Chester. “The chili cook-off was started 17 years ago and is the major fundraiser for the Rotary Club of West Chester,” explained Rotary member Cathy Palmquist, who was named the West Chester club’s Rotarian of the Year for 2019. She noted that the club raises about $50,000 at the event after expenses. “We provide cook-off participants with tents, chairs, ladles, thermometers, trash bags, little sample cups, spoons, See Chili Cook-Off pg 4

Students Collect Supplies For Veterans Dr. Renny Sardella Marks 25th Anniversary

Students at Saint Elizabeth Parish School recently donated supplies and made cards and artwork for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Welcome Home Cart program, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 13141. The Stars in Service program at Saint Elizabeth Parish School in Chester Springs is an ongoing effort by students to help others in need through various community service projects. The most recent Stars in Service project was collecting supplies for the Veterans

Affairs (VA) Welcome Home Cart program, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 13141. As part of the Welcome Home Cart program, each cart is filled with necessities and given to veterans moving into new housing at the Coatesville VA. The foldable carts can hold up to 90 pounds, and they contain items such as See Supplies For Veterans pg 2

Dr. Renny Sardella is celebrating his 25th year as a doctor of optometry (OD). His practice, Sardella Eye Associates, has locations in Coatesville and Kennett Square. After graduating from Coatesville Area High School, Renny received a Bachelor of Science in biology from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He then obtained a Doctor of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed further in-depth training during rotations at Lankenau Hospital, Hahnemann University Hospital and Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He has been in practice since 1994. Renny has treated patients with low vision at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and at the Feinbloom Center for See Dr. Sardella pg 6
