St. Mary’s Shelter To Add Transitional Housing Unit By Francine Fulton
Since 1987, St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter for Homeless Families in Phoenixville has provided a safe and temporary home for people in need from throughout Chester County. Now, the shelter will soon provide transitional housing for families by converting four former classrooms into twobedroom apartments. The classrooms were part of St. Mary’s School, a small Catholic elementary school that was run by the Sisters of St. Francis based in Aston. “At one time (the building that houses the homeless shelter) was the convent where the sisters lived and the school buildings were attached,” explained Sister Bernadette Dougherty, SSJ, executive director of St. Mary’s Shelter. “The school closed when the shelter moved in.” After St. Mary’s School closed, it was See St. Mary’s pg 3

Local Resident Launches “Gospel Spice” Podcast By Francine Fulton
Traditionally, those who would like to learn more about their faith would speak with their pastor, read related books or take part in a Bible study. Now, there is an additional way for people to get a new perspective about the Scriptures. Chester County resident Stephanie Rousselle recently launched a new podcast called “Gospel Spice,” which strives to “spice up” people’s time with God. People may listen to the podcast at www.gospel-spice.com, or they may download the episodes and listen to them on their phones, tablets or laptops. “A podcast is like a radio show, (and) it’s free,” Rousselle explained. “It is something you download, and you can listen anytime you want on your computer, phone or tablet. It’s accessible 24/7. It is the ultimate tool (for communication). See Podcast pg 5
