CHICKEN BARBECUE
Marine Corps League Chester County Detachment, 420 Chestnut St., Downingtown, will hold its 20th annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 12, from noon to 5 p.m. The cost of a meal will include a half-chicken, petite potatoes, an additional side dish, a dinner roll, dessert, and a beverage. The Friends of the Chester County Library will hold their annual fall book sale from Friday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 13, at Chester County Library, 450 Exton Square Parkway, Exton. The sale will start on Oct. 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for members of the Friends group only. Memberships can be purchased on Oct. 11 beginning at 5 p.m. at the membership table. On Saturday, Oct. 12, the sale will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. A bag sale will occur on Oct. 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. Bags will be provided, and shoppers may fill them for a set fee. For less than a whole bag, the books will be sold at half-price. All proceeds will benefit the Chester County Library. OUTGROWN SALE
409 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, will host a Fall Outgrown Sale on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon. A preview sale will be open to the public on Friday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. The sale will feature children’s clothing and accessories, including costumes, holiday outfits, winter coats, shoes and boots, as well as maternity items, toys, books, children’s décor, and baby gear. Thriving Under Extraordinary Circumstances By Chelsea Peifer
Very loving, sweet, and always having fun - that’s how Jacquelyn Sauder Iannello describes her older sister Megan Sauder Ralston. With two and a half years between them in age, the sisters - who are the youngest daughters of John and Bonita Sauder of Lititz grew up doing nearly everything together and had a friendship that strengthened into adulthood. Megan graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and went on to play Division I field hockey at Virginia Commonwealth University and earn a Master of Teaching in 2011. She taught first-grade in the Washington, D.C., area and married the love of her life, John Ralston, in 2013. In 2016, after finding a small lump in her breast about six months after giving birth to her son, Bryce, Megan who was living in Charlottesville, Va., at the time and had no family history of breast cancer - made an OB-GYN appointment and was told by two See Thrive And Grit pg 8

5K To Incorporate Fitness Challenge For Firefighters By Francine Fulton
The third annual Wallace Trust 5K “Run for the Woods” will be held in Wallace Township’s Wagenseller Park on Saturday, Oct. 19. And, for the second year, the event will feature a fitness challenge by the Glen Moore Fire Company (GMFC), which is asking firefighters to join the event and compete in the 5K wearing their firefighting gear, which is estimated to weigh between 40 and 60 pounds. During last year’s Wallace Trust 5K “Run for the Woods,” about a dozen firefighters from Glen Moore Fire Company completed the course in their gear as part of a fitness challenge. This year’s event, which will also include a 1-mile walk, will take place on Oct. 19.
