The Old Caln Historical Society has announced that the last open house of the season will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. Guided tours of the circa 1726 Old Caln Meetinghouse, located on Route 340, Thorndale, and the circa 1837 Hexagonal Schoolhouse, located on Municipal Drive, Thorndale, will be conducted by members of the historical society and the Caln Township Historical Commission. The public is invited, and no reservations are needed. OUTGROWN SALE

St. James Preschool, 409 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, will host a Fall Outgrown Sale on Friday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to noon. The sale will feature children’s clothing, including costumes, holiday outfits, winter coats, shoes, boots, and accessories, as well as maternity items, toys, books, children’s décor, and baby gear. 3 p.m. A short nondenominational service will be held at 1 p.m. in the main barn, followed by individual blessings for all animals in attendance. The event, which will be held rain or shine, is free, but donations will be accepted. Members of the community are welcome to bring their cats, dogs and other small pets to the blessing. All animals must be supervised and in crates or on leashes. “It is fun to watch all the animals arrive. The Lady Braves varsity field hockey team at Octorara Area High School recently held a carbon monoxide (CO) awareness game during its home season opener to help educate the public about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. The event, held on Sept. 7, also featured the dedication of a new sound system at the field hockey field that was provided by the Carly Imbierowicz Foundation. The foundation was founded by family members of Carly Imbierowicz of Coatesville, who, along with her friend Daulton “Daulty” Pointek, died on Nov. 22, 2014, when a broken exhaust pipe allowed carbon monoxide to leak into the car they were in. Viking Ship To Sail On Marsh Creek Lake By Francine Fulton

The community is invited to witness the sailing of the Norseman, a 40-foot Viking ship replica, that will take place at Marsh Creek Lake on Saturday, Oct. 6. The vessel will be manned by members of Leif Ericson Viking Ship Inc. (LEVS). LEVS membership chairman Hildegard Lindstrom explained that in 1964, the U.S. Congress, by joint resolution, declared Oct. 9 as Leif Ericson Day; the sail is always held on or near that date. On Oct. 6, the event will begin at noon with the launching of the ship by costumed Viking See Viking Ship pg 7

Village Ave., Lionville, will be open to the public on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Woman’s Community Club of Uwchlan manages rentals of this historic site for the Uwchlan Conservation Trust and uses it for meetings. Members serving as hostesses will show a film and discuss the historical significance of the meeting house, which is the oldest public building in Uwchlan Township.
