MUSIC FESTIVAL
St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 1193 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, will hold its fourth Rock on the Hill Music Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. The festival will feature local bands, including the Thin Line and Geoff Osborne, and musicians from the Main Line School of Rock. Lunch will be available at the food stand, and desserts will be available at the bake table. The event will be held rain or shine. Attendees may bring lawn chairs or blankets. Separate admission fees have been set for adults and for children under age 12. Dogs will be admitted for free. All proceeds will benefit the church’s music ministry. UPCOMING MEETING
The Sadsbury Township Historical Society will meet on Monday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Sadsbury Township Municipal Building, 2920 Lincoln Highway, Sadsburyville. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Guest speaker Gerry Treadway will discuss the Parkesburg Iron Works. Visitors are welcome, and admission is free. Light refreshments will be served after the program. Central Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Uwchlan Ave., Downingtown, will hold its monthly community luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chili, chicken corn noodle, vegetable beef, and cream of potato soups will be sold along with sandwiches, salad platters, homemade desserts, and beverages. West Nantmeal To Celebrate Community Day By Francine Fulton
West Nantmeal Township will celebrate its second annual Community Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at West Nantmeal Township Community Park, 455 N. Manor Road (Route 82), Elverson. Event organizers said that last year’s inaugural event was a huge success and that even more activities are planned for this year. Starting off the festivities at 9 a.m. will be the “Stoke the Furnace” 5K walk/run and 10K run, followed by a free children’s fun run at 10:15 a.m. More details about the 5K and 10K can be found at www.pretzelcitysports.com. A new attraction this year will be guided wagon tours provided by the West Nantmeal Historical Commission, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. “We try to live out the parable of the Good Samaritan. We recognize people … who are hurting and suffering in our communities. We meet them where they’re at, and we respond with generosity and compassion,” said Nate Hoffer, chief executive officer of Good Samaritan Services, when he spoke recently at a meeting of the New Holland Area Kiwanis Club. Good Samaritan, with locations in Ephrata, Lancaster, Coatesville, and Phoenixville, was founded as the Good Samaritan Shelter in 2002 when several Phoenixville-area churches joined forces to help area residents who were struggling, especially with housing. Bradford Heights Elementary To Hold Consignment Event

Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School (PJP II) will present its Kids’ Fall Outgrown Sale on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. Offered for sale will be children’s and teenagers’ fall and winter clothing, girls’ purses and accessories, baby and children’s furniture, play equipment, video games, CDs, DVDs and more. The sale will be located in the school gymnasium, where nearly 60 consignors, including members of the PJP II school family and alumni, will offer items for sale. Clothing will be sorted by size and gender, with a separate section for teenagers. “We will have racks of clothing on hangers and tables (where) everything will be folded and sorted nicely,” said Jackie Fuller, who is co-chairing the sale along with Trish Goodman.
