The Laundromat Library League (LLL) is partnering with the Lionville Community YMCA for a children’s book drive to collect books for children who have few or none at home. The LLL places books in laundromats for children to read, take home, and pass on. The community is invited to bring any new or gently used toddlers’ books to the YMCA, 100 Devon Drive, Exton, from Friday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Oct. 4. People of all ages are welcome to participate in the annual Family 5K Run/Walk for Life being presented on Saturday, Sept. 28, by Chester County Women’s Services (CCWS), a nonprofit pregnancy care medical center. The event will take place in Downingtown’s Kerr Park, in Kardon Park and along the Struble Trail. Registration will open at 8 a.m. at Kerr Park, 1 Park Lane, Downingtown, located behind the Downingtown Library, next to the baseball field and the Kerr Park playground. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:40 a.m. “We will have a prayer, and someone will speak about what CCWS is and the services we provide,” said Michelle Maloney, CCWS development director. Participants will then walk a short distance along Pennsylvania Avenue
and across its intersection with Route 282 to the entrance of the Struble Trail in Kardon Park. The race will start at the head of the Struble Trail. The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. “It is a paved trail,” Maloney noted. “You can either walk the trail or run it this year.” Parents with children in strollers will be welcome. The race will be professionally timed. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age category. There will be a team award for the largest group, along with awards for the individuals who raise the most money. The awards ceremony will be held in Kerr Park at approximately 10 a.m. at the conclusion of the 5K. Snacks and a time for fellowship will also be offered at the post-race event. New incentives for walkers and runners will be offered this year. Those who raise $50 will receive a swag bag See Run/Walk For Life pg 6

The Barley Sheaf Players, a nonprofit community theater organization in Lionville, will present upcoming performances of “Snow White,” an adaptation of the popular fairy tale that features only two actors who perform multiple roles.
