PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Phoenixville Public Library, 183 Second Ave., Phoenixville, will host a “Photography Fundamentals” workshop by local professional photographer Laura Keen on Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. Keeping smartphones and cameras in mind, the comprehensive session is designed to elevate photography skills by teaching the fundamentals of lighting, composition, portraiture and technique. Pope John Paul II (PJP II) Regional Catholic Elementary School, 2875 Manor Road, West Brandywine, will host a Young Saints Community Egg Hunt and Activity Day on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. The free event, which is geared toward children age 5 and under, will include arts and crafts, an egg hunt and refreshments. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. (WCCCC) will hold its 18th annual Municipal Update Luncheon on Friday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the facilities of G.A. Vietri Inc., 105 Independence Way, Coatesville. Municipal leaders will share their news and opportunities for the municipalities they represent. Topics of discussion will include business initiatives, economic development projects and plans for the upcoming year. Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St., Parkesburg, will present an all-you-can-eat dried beef dinner on Saturday, March 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu will include dried beef and gravy, fried potatoes, toast, baked beans, peppered cabbage, applesauce and cake, along with coffee, tea and iced tea. Students Honored As Good Citizens DAR Awards

Seniors from area high schools were recognized as Good Citizens by members of the Chester County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) during a ceremony held on March 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester. Local recipients included Robert Duncheskie, Bishop Shanahan High School; Lauren DiCamillo, Coatesville Area Senior High School; Grace Yatcilla, Downingtown High School East; and Mary Clay, Downingtown High School West. Beverly Lawler, chairperson of the Good Citizen Committee, explained that the honor is presented annually to students who demonstrate the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The students are chosen for the honor by their respective high schools. See Good Citizens pg 8

Although a woman’s right to vote is universally accepted now, there was a time in the history of the United States when this idea was considered a radical change to the U.S. Constitution. Addressing the topic of the 19th amendment, which granted women this right, was the task of local students who took part in the American History Essay Contest presented annually by the Chester County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). PJP II Sets Spring Outgrown Sale Parkesburg To Host First Art Walk Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School (PJP II), 2875 Manor Road (Route 82), West Brandywine, will hold its Kids’ Spring Outgrown Sale on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the gymnasium. It is open to the public, and admission is free. Only cash and checks will be accepted. Approximately 60 consignors, including members of the PJP II school family as well as alumni, are providing items for the event. through grade 12 will be on display in Parkesburg businesses during the first Parkesburg Art Walk. On Friday, March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 23, from noon to 4 p.m., eight businesses along the 200 and 300 blocks of Main Street in Parkesburg will have select student artwork on display. The public is invited to drop in all the shops and see the high quality and creativity of the student art. See Art Walk pg 2
