Downingtown Students Enjoy Visiting With Adoptable Dogs

687 Compass Road, Honey Brook, will host a visit from a representative from Sen. Katie Muth’s office on the fourth Friday of every other month. Local residents are invited to discuss their questions or concerns. The satellite office hours this month will be 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 28. Future dates include April 24 and June 26. GVWA Will Offer Nature Programs By Francine Fulton
Green Valleys Watershed Association (GVWA) invites community members to attend Nature On Tap, a new winter program series for adults age 21 and over. Programs will take place at Stone Barn Cellars Winery, 3050 Pottstown Pike, Spring City. According to Dawn
White, GVWA education programs coordinator, the talks will be held in a large restored barn at the location. The first program, “Help! HIKE AT PRESERVE
Elverson Walking Club (EWC) members will hike at the Bryn Coed Preserve on Sunday, Feb. 23. Community members are welcome to participate. The group will hike the area’s trails, which include both open fields and woods. Pets on leashes will be welcome. EWC will meet at the preserve at 1:30 p.m. The GPS address is 1869 Flint Road, Chester Springs. Local Resident Continues To Support African Orphanage By Francine Fulton
Even though the Rev. Dr. Peter Ayukachale lives and works in Chester County, he remains committed to an orphanage that he founded more than 40 years ago.
The Kembong Sanctuary for Orphans is a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization founded in 1976 to help abandoned orphans in Cameroon, Africa. The orphanage provides support to meet the children’s basic needs, such as shelter, food, clothing, medical care and schooling. See Orphanage pg 5

It’s for the students, but we also see our faculty and staff really enjoy it, too.” Additionally, the program offers opportunities for students to learn more about dog rescue, and they are invited to pick up a brochure about TLC. “It brings awareness to dogs that need homes,” said Gallo. “We’ve had multiple dogs adopted by staff members - at least five or six in the past year. Students have also been able to connect with To Love A Canine about volunteer opportunities, which has been great as well.” Tracy Long, executive director of TLC, said the school visits are beneficial for the students as well as the dogs. “The students get a stress release, and the dogs and puppies get socialized and

As part of the Stress Free Friday program, students at Downingtown High School East enjoyed visiting adoptable dogs and puppies that were brought to the school by volunteers from To Love a Canine Rescue (TLC). Students gathered in the school library to visit and pet the dogs, play games with them and exchange kisses and hugs with the canines. The visiting puppies were particularly popular with the students. According to Heather Gallo, one of the school counselors, the dogs visit with students every several months. “Students who have a free period - lunch or study hall - come to the library,” she stated, noting that between four and eight dogs

Bridge Of Hope Chester County Appoints Executive Director By Francine Fulton
Although Bridge of Hope Chester County is now part of a national organization and it has new leadership, the philosophy of the organization remains the same. “We are a nonprofit organization whose commitment is to end homelessness,” stated executive director Lisa Cameron. Prior to her appointment to Bridge of Hope in January, Cameron served as director of empowerment services at YWCA Lancaster from 2010 to 2019. Her work with the YWCA continues as a consultant with the YWCA USA for a pilot program that focuses on girls and women of color who have experienced trauma.
