Nantmeal United Methodist Church, 359 Nantmeal Road, Glenmoore, will host its free monthly community luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 11, from noon to 2 p.m. This month’s menu will feature meatball sandwiches, tossed salad, baked ziti and dessert. 183 Second Ave., Phoenixville, will offer a free workshop, “Facebook 101,” on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. Social media expert Christine Tarlecki will be the instructor. Attendees will learn how to friend and post text and pictures from their phone or computer. Participants should bring their own electronic devices. The class is free and open to the public. Atglen Public Library, 413 Valley Ave., Atglen, will hold a “Kid Crafternoon” program on the third Thursday of each month, beginning on Jan. 16, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. The expanded story time for students in kindergarten through grade three will feature a story and related craft and snack made by the participants. This is a drop-off program, but parents are asked to stay within the library. Preregistration with a notation about any food allergies is required. Resolve To Make A Difference In 2020 VEP Names Tutors Of The Year

With the arrival of the new year, many people have made resolutions to make positive changes in their lives. Representatives from local nonprofit organizations hope that people will resolve to become volunteers in 2020, giving the most valuable gift of all - the gift of time. The Volunteer English Program (VEP) in Chester County is seeking tutors to provide weekly, one-to-one English language instruction for adult immigrants or refugees living in Chester County. A three-day, nine-hour tutor training workshop will be held at St. Francis-inthe-Fields Episcopal Church, 689 Sugartown Road, Malvern, on Thursday, Jan. 9; Monday, Jan. 13; and Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The Volunteer English Program (VEP) of Chester County, which offers free English language instruction to adult immigrants and refugees, recently named seven Conversation Group leaders as its 2019 Hamilton Tutors of the Year. Conversation Groups are weekly meetings held at local libraries where VEP students and community members come together to practice their English conversation skills under the guidance of the leaders. Imbierowicz Foundation Promotes CO Awareness

Hopewell United Methodist Church (UMC) in Downingtown opened its doors on Dec. 25 to offer a free Christmas Day dinner to the community. This was the seventh year that church members have served the meal. According to church member and event organizer Becky Bennington, this year’s dinner was one of the largest ever held at the church. “We had 110 register to attend, including volunteers,” she noted. will hold a Science Saturday for youths ages 8 to 14 on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Government Services Center, 601 Westtown Road, West Chester. The topic will be Game Changers. Participants will learn how to use computer science to create games and solve problems through physical activities and puzzles. Separate fees have been set for 4-H members and nonmembers.
