Lancaster Conservancy has announced the acquisition of 180 acres in Lower Chanceford Township, York County, with healthy forests and panoramic views of the Susquehanna River. The property, which will be called Eagle View Nature Preserve, is directly adjacent to the regional Mason-Dixon Trail and is part of the viewshed for the Enola Low Grade Trail in Lancaster County. This new preserve also sits just outside of an area of land at Cuffs Run that the Conservancy is fighting to protect.
The upriver view from the new nature preserve is vast and captures one of the wider sections of the river. Visitors will be able to enjoy a view of the Conejohela Flats, an important birding area; Highpoint County Park; the Wrightsville Bridge; and the towns of Columbia and Wrightsville.

At the preserve, healthy, mature forests surround a mid-20th-century stone house and guesthouse. The woods, rich with a variety of oak species as well as hick-

ory, sweet birch, and yellow poplar, were at risk of being cut down when the property went up for sale. The conservancy’s acquisition of Eagle View will protect this piece of habitat along the river while providing public access to nature and a view of the Susquehanna.
The new nature preserve is within the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape (SRCL) as well as the federally designated Highlands

The Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York, will present several training programs in 2026 focused on teaching essential skills for restoring the land. To register, visit www.hornfarmcenter.org/ training-programs.
Two programs will focus on helping nature recover lost habitat and heal degraded ecosystems. Both the Ecological Restoration Certificate and the Ecological Gardener Training Program will be taught in collaboration with Elyse Jurgen of Waxwing EcoWorks Co., a local ecological landscaping and environmental education company.
The Ecological Restoration Certificate program will take place over three Saturdays, Jan. 10 and 24 and Feb. 7. Active practitioners, homeowners, and community advocates interested in land stewardship will explore compassionate, resourceful methods for restoring local ecosystems. Topics will include basic ecology, biodiversity, non-chemical approaches, and replacing introduced species. For more information, visit www.hornfarmcenter.org/ eco-restoration-cert.
The Ecological Gardener Training Program will meet for 16 weeks on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 3 and provide an in-depth exploration of ecological gardening. Students will observe natural systems as well as design, plant, and tend ecologically valuable habitat gardens in human spaces. For more information, visit www.hornfarmcenter.org/
ecological-gardener-training.
Other programs will focus on cultivating healthy, abundant local food.
The Regenerative Grower Training Program will run from Tuesday, Feb. 17, to Friday, Oct. 16. The immersive program will introduce students to seed propagation, ecological food system design, and the care of annual and perennial crops. A weekly crop share beginning in June will allow participants to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The program is ideal for anyone, from beginning gardeners to aspiring small farmers, seeking to reconnect with the land while supporting themselves, their families, and their communities as local food producers. For more information, visit www.hornfarmcenter .org/regenerative-grower -training.
A Beekeeper Training Program, spanning nine monthly sessions, will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The program will guide participants through the process of keeping a healthy bee colony for honey, wax, and related products. Students will meet monthly for evening classes that combine foundational instruction with hands-on experience working with live apiaries at the Horn Farm Center. For more information, visit www.hornfarmcenter.org/ beekeeper-training.
Spaces in all programs are limited, and early registration is encouraged. No prior experience is required. For more information, call 717757-6441 or email education@hornfarmcenter.org.

The Lancaster County Conservation District held a gala at Moonstone Manor in Elizabethtown on Sept. 25 to celebrate 75 years of conservation efforts in Lancaster County.
For 75 years, volunteers and district staff have worked with landowners and communities to care for natural and agricultural resources in local watersheds that have a direct impact on the Chesapeake Bay. In 1950, Lancaster County commissioners approved establishing a countywide conservation district, initially working with farmers to maintain soils and installing sustainable conservation practices like field contour strips, cattle crossings, streambank fencing, and no-till planting practices. Today, the district’s mission remains to promote the stewardship of natural resources for Lancaster County and beyond.
Dan Lynch, former Pennsylvania Game Commission educator, hosted

the program, and Commissioner Ray D’Agostino shared remarks and presented a proclamation on behalf of the Lancaster County commissioners. Other speakers at the celebration included Sonia Wasco, district board chair; Chris Thompson, district administrator; Jill Whitcomb, Pennsylvania Deputy Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Water Programs; Doug Wolfgang, the executive secretary of the State Conservation Commission; Don McNutt, former district administrator; Jim Caldwell, Rettew Associates; Matt Kofroth, assistant district manager; and Dan Zimmerman, district associate director. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russ Redding closed out the program, and the evening ended with a toast by Chris Thompson, recognizing the district’s strong reputation for high-quality service and opportunities for the future.

The Columbia Catholic Mental Health Ministry will hold a Blue Christmas Vigil on Friday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia.
The hourlong service will include prayers, words, and music offering peace, healing, and hope. The service is open to all, regardless of faith tradition, and will provide a sacred space for people struggling with feelings of grief, sadness, and loneliness during the holiday season. The Rev. Mark Harris, pastor of Salem United Church of Christ in Columbia, will share a reflection during the service.
The Columbia Catholic Mental Health Ministry, a joint effort by St. Peter and Holy Trinity parishes, aims to provide spiritual support and community for people experiencing mental health challenges and their families. While not a substitute for mental health treatment, the ministry offers supplemental assistance and information to help overcome stigma and misunderstandings about mental illness.

Without hope, there is nothing. Services that provide hope where there once was none or little can be life changing.
Now I Can Foundation deals in the business of hope.
“Only God can make miracles happen,” said Allison Ebersole, Now I Can’s executive director. “But we’re helping make miracles happen, and we’re giving families hope. The sooner we can (start working with) kids, the better chance we have of making a change.”
Located at 100 W. Millport Road, Lititz, Now I Can Foundation Northeast aims to provide hope to families with children disabled by disorders like cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other gross motor delays and genetic conditions. The results don’t lie.
“Some of our patients come in not walking. Some leave walking. Some leave running,” said Ebersole. “I love being able to see the change that the therapists can make. I like being able to connect with families. I love when moms cry, because that was me with my daughter. They’re tears of happiness. Until you live it, you can’t understand it. I’ve been in a similar boat for 16 years.”
The secret to the Now I Can Foundation’s success is the relatively basic concept of intensive physical therapy. It’s similar to regular physical therapy, only
ramped up a few intensity notches.
At Now I Can, pediatric patients condense 57 hours of physical therapy into a three-week period, something like four hours a day, five days a week, depending upon the age of the patient and the condition. Many traditional models offer 40 hours of physical therapy a year - 45-minute sessions once a week for 48 weeks.
“Children with neurological challenges need repetitions and they need thousands of repetitions,” said Ebersole. “It’s that concentrated effort that makes a difference. It’s teaching the brain new paths to do things in a different way.”
Now I Can’s intensive physical therapy is designed for patients between the ages of 10 months and 18 years. Partly due to the intensive nature of the therapy, Now I Can treats between two and eight patients during any threeweek time frame.
Those patients reside in Lancaster County and the surrounding counties of Lebanon, York, Dauphin and Bucks. Thirty percent of Now I Can’s kids come from outside of Pennsylvania.
“They are children whose parents have hope for them to be able to reach goals others have thought impossible for them,” said Ebersole. “There are very few providers who use intensive physical therapy around. We’re the only one in the state of Pennsylvania. There’s an extreme need for it. One of the

biggest problems we have is that locally people don’t know that we exist. To me, that’s a really big issue. As much as we want to help the world, we really want to help local families.”
Among the 10 individuals that Now I Can employs, two practice physical therapy on a fulltime basis, and two practice it on a part-time basis. The foundation accepts insurance and makes grants available to families that apply and meet eligibility requirements.
“When some of our patients come here, they can’t do certain things,” said Ebersole. “When they’re here, we hear kids say, ‘Now I can.’ We hear it from parents too. We have kids coming here needing walkers and then not having to use walkers anymore.”
Now I Can Foundation Northeast opened its doors in 2022 after borrowing some of its treatment models from Now I Can Foundation in Orem, Utah. Ebersole’s daughter Lauren, now 16, made

significant progress in her experience with cerebral palsy during family visits to Now I Can in Utah when she was younger.
“This year is a pivotal year for (Now I Can) because we’ve really been growing,” said Ebersole. “Each year we’ve been growing, and we have tons of space. We’re looking to add more therapists so we can treat more kids. We want to help kids with disabilities reach their full potentials.”

For the 10th year in the concert’s history, people from around the world will

Practice concerts are scheduled for noon on Saturdays, Dec. 13 and 20. The whistle can easily be heard within a 5-mile radius of the concert location, and depending upon the wind, the whistle has been reported from as far away as 10 miles.

Pantry of Plenty in York, an eco-conscious refill and goods shop that offers green home and body products, locally handcrafted items and small-batch refills, recently celebrated its grand opening week. The shop was founded by Lance Pentzer and Samantha Perez.

The week featured small door prizes and community activities, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, building of shoutout boards, an in-shop scavenger hunt, a signature scent showcase and a weekend food drive supporting the local food bank. Pentzer and Perez curated goodie bags for their visitors as a token of their gratitude.
Moving forward, Pantry of Plenty will host a “Picks of the Week Section” for unique finds and “Littles Shopping Hour,” an educational, recurring special
hour on Saturdays for children age 12 and younger and their guardians. The refillery also serves as a free TerraCycle drop-off point for patrons to responsibly dispose of hard-to-recycle materials.
The shop has gifts for every occasion, curated and designed to help reduce waste and celebrate all of life’s special moments, as well as everyday household goods and a variety of body care soaps, lotions and oils. Pantry of Plenty is a bilingual, community-minded space.
Located near Route 30’s Hallam exit at 3931 E. Market St., Pantry of Plenty is part of a growing movement of small businesses interested in natural essentials. People may follow Pantry of Plenty on Facebook, Nextdoor, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Tiktok.
