The annual Columbia Christmas food box delivery, sponsored by the Columbia Lions Club and Sunsnappers, will take place on Sunday, Dec. 16, starting at 9 a.m. at the Columbia Borough Fire Department, 726 Manor St., Columbia. Hundreds of volunteers, businesses, and organizations will pack and deliver 700 food boxes. Families that registered in advance will receive their food boxes between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and they should plan to be home to accept the boxes.

Seniors Invited To Annual Christmas Meal By Chelsea Peifer

Valley View Alliance Church, 200 Alliance Ave., York, has announced its Sunday Advent service message series, titled “A Royal Christmas.” Advent services will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sundays, Dec. 16 and 23. Each service will include a children’s message. On Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, a candlelight service will begin at 6 p.m. All four aspects of “A Royal Christmas” will be celebrated with music, readings, and candle lighting. Water’s Edge United Methodist Church, 471 Abels Road, Wrightsville, invites community members who may be struggling with the loss of a friend or family member this Christmas season to a Longest Night service of reflection and comfort on Friday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. It will be a time of prayer, Scripture and music to acknowledge that God’s presence is for those who mourn. The Columbia-Lancaster Christmas Ladies will host the 33rd annual free Christmas lunch for seniors age 55 and older on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, at the Columbia Borough Fire Department, 10th and Manor streets, Columbia. Doors will open at 10 a.m. for a time of socializing and sharing coffee, tea, punch, and snacks. Lunch will be served at noon and will include ham and turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls, pies, and ice cream. Live music will be performed by keyboardist Louis Schotte. Dancing is encouraged. Individuals age 55 and older who do not have other plans for Christmas Day are invited to attend. Reservations are required, and interested individuals may sign up by calling 717-397-2267 or 717-684-0128 by Monday, Dec. 17.
Individuals and businesses interested in making a contribution for a door prize that a senior citizen would appreciate may also call to do so. Transportation for Columbia residents can be arranged upon request. Volunteers will drive a van provided by St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church to pick up and drop off senior citizens in need of a ride to the meal. Friends Helen Bechtold and Sis Luzader, who organize the event and are known as the Columbia-Lancaster Christmas Ladies, emphasized that the event is made possible thanks to donations from area businesses, organizations, and individuals. In addition to a free meal, each attendee will receive a food bag filled with groceries and pantry staples to take home. On Monday, Dec. 24, at 10 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 900 Pleasant Grove Road, Red Lion, a Christmas Eve candlelight service will take place.
