This year, Christmas festivities in Columbia Borough - including a day full of public appearances by Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and their elves - will coincide with Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30. Recognized in towns and cities across the country, Small Business Saturday is an effort to encourage people to patronize small, locally owned businesses. As an added incentive, parking will be free in downtown Columbia on Small Business Saturday. In keeping with tradition, Columbia resident Bob Mimnall will dress up as Santa Claus with his family members accompanying him as Mrs. Claus and elves. For his first stop, Santa will visit Hinkle’s Restaurant, 261 Locust St., from 10 a.m. to noon. Children are invited to have a photograph taken with him.
Santa will be the guest of honor in the annual holiday parade organized by Columbia Quick Response Service (QRS). The parade will begin at 2 p.m. from the Columbia Borough Fire Department at 10th and Manor streets and will proceed along Manor Street to Fourth Street before turning onto Union Street, Second Street, and Locust Street before concluding at the Columbia Public Library, 24 S. Sixth St. Roads will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will travel in a 1948 American LaFrance fire engine. The parade entourage will also include Columbia QRS, Columbia Borough Police Department, Columbia Borough Fire Company, and several other local emergency service organizations from Columbia, Hellam, Mountville, and Wrightsville.
