Wrightsville AG Announces Community Fall Fest By Chelsea Peifer

The World War II (WWII) Oral History Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia. Victor Maurelli Sr., U.S. Navy frogman, 1940 to 1955, will speak. Maurelli is a WWII and Korean War veteran who served in Guam and the Philippines and during the Battle of Midway. During his years with the Navy, he was commissioned on the USS Corregidor, but served on other ships that needed his diving expertise until the end of the war. Meetings are open to everyone. Area residents of all ages are invited to the seventh annual Community Fall Fest at Wrightsville Assembly of God from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Free food and beverages, hayrides, barrel train rides, a car bash, a petting zoo, games and prizes, and a bicycle obstacle course will be among the festivities.
Delivering Christmas Joy As it has for the last 30-plus years, the tight-knit community of Columbia will come together to lend a hand to those in need this Christmas season. The annual Christmas Food Box Delivery will take place on Sunday, Dec. 22, thanks to the organizers - Columbia Lions Club and Sunsnappers, along with area businesses and organizations, and the hundreds of volunteers that make this day of giving possible. Each year, members of the fraternal organizations join together, along with numerous community volunteers, to pack hundreds of boxes with holiday dinner items and additional grocery staples. Each box contains a turkey, eggs, bread, milk, canned vegetables, cereals, and more. Families with children from newborn to age 10 who are not receiving Toys for Tots donations will also receive See Christmas Boxes pg 8

Columbia Lions Club will hold a Harvest Dance on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 to 11 p.m at the Columbia Fire Department, 10th and Manor streets, Columbia. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The Maxwell Project will provide music. Admission is a set donation, which includes beverages and snacks. Susquehanna Stage Company (SSC) will perform Arthur Miller’s masterful 1953 American drama “The Crucible” as the debut play in the Eater Theater
at the Marietta Center for the Arts, 133 W. Market St., Marietta. Set in Salem, Mass., “The Crucible” tells the fictionalized story of the witch trials that took place among the Massachusetts Bay Colonists in 1692. See “The Crucible” pg 7
“Urban Spirits” will be the theme of Columbia’s Haunted Lantern Tour, which will be offered on Oct. 25 and 26. The tour will begin and end at The Loyal Order of the Moose in Columbia and will showcase night life in Columbia from the early 1800s through the 1930s.

Some of Wrightsville’s veterans will share brief accounts of their experiences, and a chorus composed of Wrightsville volunteers and church choir members will provide patriotic music.
