Soiree On The Susquehanna “A lot of people think the Susquehanna River divides Lancaster and York counties, but I like to think of it as a zipper,” said Bill Wright, director of community giving for Susquehanna National Heritage Area (NHA). “It’s a connector. It brings us together.” The river will take center stage when Susquehanna NHA holds its Summer Soiree Redux beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20. The event will take place at River’s Edge at Long Level, 1829 Long Level Road, Wrightsville. Organizers are calling it a “Redux” because last year’s event had to be canceled, Wright explained, noting the Summer Soiree is an opportunity to raise funds for the organization while also highlighting the history and culture of the region. The event will feature pontoon boat rides on the Susquehanna, David Kinser (left) and James “Boomer” Weaver are organizing the Driving 4 Drama Benefit Car Show.

to 2 p.m. at the high school, 901 Ironville Pike. “Our club was really starving for money, and I came up with this idea in 2019,” Kinser said. That year, the car show featured more than 100 cars, and Kinser hoped to repeat the event last year but had to cancel it due to the pandemic. “I’m excited to get back to it,” he stated. “I know there are a lot of
people who have cars they want to show off. We had 121 cars enter the first year, and we’re hoping to get twice that many this year.” Any car, truck or motorcycle may be entered in the show, which features 17 participant-judged categories. Additional categories will be judged by car professionals, and the Director’s Choice category will be judged by Columbia High School

theater director Janet Wood. “We have a Beater With a Heater category,” said James “Boomer” Weaver, who is co-chairing the event. “If you have a beater, bring it out.” Unique trophies will be awarded, noted Kinser, adding, “We had trophies made with the theater masks on top of them. People thought those were really cool since it benefits the theater club.”
