School Supply Drive To Benefit Local Students By Chelsea Peifer

PAINTING PARTY

No season flies by quite like summer, and even though it may seem like school just ended, many people are already hard at work preparing for the start of another new academic year. To help ensure that children in Columbia Borough are prepared with supplies they need during the school year, Columbia Life Network is once again hosting a school supply drive supporting the Columbia Borough School District and Our Lady of the Angels school. Supplies requested include new backpacks, pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, rulers, scissors, binders, notebooks, glue sticks, and earbuds. Several opportunities for the community to donate school supplies are planned. The first will be at several local retail stores on Saturday, Aug. 3,

from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Once finalized, a list of locations will be posted at www.facebook.com/columbialife network. Columbia Life Network executive director Jamie Widener noted that the biggest change for this year will be the addition of collection boxes placed at businesses and churches throughout Columbia for added convenience throughout the summer. “There really is a uniqueness in Columbia as far as how the community comes together to do this every year,” remarked Widener. Another opportunity to drop off donations will be at the popular “Jail ‘N’ Bail” event during the Columbia Borough Police Department’s National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Glatfelter Field, 1249 Lancaster Ave., Columbia. Throughout the evening, donors will receive tickets that See School Supply Drive pg 2
