Buckle Up, Buttercup BY CATHY MOLITORIS

A team of students at Columbia High School recently won a contest sponsored by State Farm and The Center for Traffic Safety to design a billboard promoting safe driving. Their winning design in the No Excuses Youth Traffic Safety Billboard Design Contest encourages drivers to “Buckle Up Buttercup” with a message

that “Seatbelts = Safety.” Advised by Jere A. Hill, the team was comprised of Mackenzie Burke, Ethan Schmitt and Stephen Huang. The design features a teddy bear buckled into its seat next to a red heart containing the billboard’s message. The billboard is located off of Route 30 in Lancaster, near the Hawthorne Suites by Wyndham, 2045 Lincoln Highway East. See Billboard pg 5

rightsville is full of history, and the town celebrates its past at two museums operated under the Historic Wrightsville umbrella. The Wrightsville Historical Museum, 309 Locust St., and the Burning of the Bridge Diorama, 124 Hellam St., recently reopened after being closed during the pandemic. “Any Civil War buff will be inter-

W

ested in Wrightsville’s participation in the Civil War,” said Anne Kostas, a board member of Historic Wrightsville, “but anyone who is curious about Wrightsville’s history would enjoy these sites.” The Wrightsville Historical Museum is currently featuring “The Families of Wrightsville,” which showcases memorabilia donated to or purchased by the museum. “We have worked on this display for over a year, sorting items from five representative families,”

noted co-historian, Lisa Burk. “Items from local businesses, family Bibles, pictures, furniture and other memorabilia make for a fascinating trip back in time in and around Wrightsville.” On select Sunday afternoons, the museum will also host Kids Klub, led by kindergarten teacher Jeremy Young, as well as Memories and Munchies, hosted by Mary Ellen Kasian. “The programs are offered for elementary-school-age children once a month,” Kostas said.

Heather Lindsey will be the first one to tell you her life hasn’t been easy, but instead of wallowing in self-pity, she is working hard to help others. “I have a heart for women,” she stated. “I’ve had a hard life, a hard upbringing. You name it, I’ve been through it. But, one day, God laid this idea on my heart.” That idea was to create 4C, a women’s ministry that meets in Columbia and Manheim.
