Ranger Hour will take place on Tuesday, June 4, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Columbia Crossing, 41 Walnut St., Columbia. The program is part of a free weekly nature series to be presented this summer by Curtis Sherwood, the environmental educator at Samuel S. Lewis State Park. The World War II Oral History Club will welcome speaker Don Witmer to its meeting on Tuesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia. Witmer, a Lancaster native, served as a torpedo man in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Twiggs, which would join the Pacific Fleet in 1944. The ship was hit once, repaired, and then hit again a few months later, and it sunk enveloped in flames. Witmer was among the 188 survivors. The 31st annual Lancaster Senior Games, held May 6 to 10, had another record-breaking year for attendance with a total of 1,004 participants and more than 335 volunteers. According to organizer Lisa Paulson of the Lancaster County Office of Aging, this was the first time that participation numbers broke the 1,000 mark. “People are having fun, and they just love doing it,” remarked committee member Sandy Hess in regards to the record-breaking See Senior Games pg 6

Honoring The Fallen Area residents are invited to the Columbia Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Sunday, May 26, to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the Locust Street Park gazebo. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the social room at
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sixth and Locust streets. The Bainbridge Band will perform beforehand, beginning at 12:15 p.m. Mayor Leo Lutz will offer remarks, and the main ceremony speaker will be Magisterial District Judge Miles Bixler. Wrightsville Legion Post To Mark 100 Years The American Legion was born 100 years ago, with the first meeting held in Paris and the second meeting held in St. Louis. After its founding, posts opened across the United States, including the Abel, Poff, Leitheiser American Legion Post 469, based in
