“This show is a mix between ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ and ‘Clue,’” shared senior Michael Unkow, who plays several parts in the show, including Mr. Loomis and the croupier. “It’s about a guy who finds out his uncle has passed away, and his uncle has left him $6 million in his will. But he only gets the money if he takes his

“This is awful for Harry, because he hates dogs,” Michael said. “He really doesn’t want the money to go there. A representative from the dog home tails him, trying to get him to make a mistake so she can get the money.”
Zooey Minnick plays Annabel Glick, the dog home employee. Chaos ensues as she pursues Harry, played by Alexymahr Whitley, and as additional quirky characters become involved in the plot.
“My character is a crazy lady, a New Jersey girl, who … stole $6 million from her husband,” said Namara Foster, a senior who plays Rita LaPorta. “She’s the person who killed Tony, and she needs to get the money back, so she’s after his nephew, Harry.”
As cast member Samir Milligan explained, “There are a lot of moving parts to this show. It’s a very fast-paced comedy.”

“Get ready for a night of sizzling excitement and paw-some fun!” said Tammy L. Jalbert, executive director of Columbia Animal Shelter. “Join us at Chopped for Charity to benefit the Columbia Animal Shelterwhere culinary creativity meets compassion!”
The second annual Chopped for Charity will be held on Saturday, March 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Country Barn Farm Market,
The idea for the event came
Modeled after the Food Network show “Chopped,” the event challenges participants to create a dish using ingredients from a mystery box. Contestants may also use additional items from a shared pantry, but each dish must prominently feature all of the mystery ingredients.
The chefs competing this year are Ethan Greer, Chef M and Javan Small. Greer is a restaurateur native to York County. He founded Taqueria El Camino,

Chef M (also known as chef Michelle Andrews) has a passion for global flavors and traditions. She specializes in private dining, customized meal plans and culinary education. After attending culinary school in Colorado, she opened her own business serving York and surrounding communities
Small grew up in Maryland and at Misawa Air Force Base in Japan. He has resided in York since 2015 and has worked for more than 20 years in various culinary environments. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University, he trained in Luxembourg and worked at a Michelin Star restaurant. He worked for several food service companies in New England before serving as executive chef at restaurants in Allentown and Easton. For the past two and a half years, he has worked for York Country Day School.
At Chopped for Charity, guests will enjoy a buffet dinner, live entertainment and information about the shelter’s mission and impact. Complimentary soda and water will be provided, with beer and wine available for purchase. The culinary competition portion of the event will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The chefs will have 30 minutes to create a dish, which will be tasted by four judges. Three of the judges will be prominent community members, while the fourth judge position will be auctioned off to an event attendee.
Following the competition, a live auction will be held, featuring experiences such as farm tours and private in-home dinners with local chefs. Additionally, a fund-aneed paddle auction will also take place, spotlighting how donations directly support the shelter’s ongoing efforts. A whiskey pull will also be featured.

Judges dig in at last year’s Chopped for Charity event.
from a collaboration between the library and some of the authors.
“Several local authors had generously donated copies of their books to the library,” Johnson said.
“I felt as though I could do more to promote them
than just adding their titles to the collection. With the author meetand-greet event, I feel as though I am providing a platform for authors to showcase their work and for readers to learn about the amazing local homegrown talent. The library plays a unique role in this through its capacity to bring all these elements together.”
Four of the featured authors - Brandstadter, Stauffer, Heller and Eaby - created the agenda for the day.
“The authors wanted the event to be informal and low key, with the emphasis on meeting the authors, conver -
sation and making connections with individual readers,” Johnson said.
This is the first time for this event at the library, and Johnson is optimistic about its success.
“We wanted to start small to gauge interest and then build on the event in future years,” she noted. “This is a community that reads, and this is a community that also supports its small businesses and charitable organizations. Most of these authors live, work and write in the local area. This is a chance for you to meet, get to know and support homegrown talent before they hit the big time!”
No registration is required for the event, and there is no cost to attend.
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with the authors to plan the event,”

Waldorf school slates open house
Susquehanna Waldorf School, 15 W. Walnut St., Marietta, will host an open house on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Attendees may tour the classrooms, watch a traditional puppet play, and learn about the curriculum.
The school is open to children in prekindergarten through eighth grade.
Fans of the children’s series “Bluey” may discover there are similarities between the school featured in the show - Glasshouse Primary - and realworld Waldorf schools.
Waldorf education champions the idea that childhood is a time for creativity and wonder. Just like Bluey
and Bingo transform tree stumps into helicopters or conjure up magical kingdoms from everyday objects, students engage in open-ended play with natural materials like wooden blocks, silks, and handmade toys. These early experiences with imaginative play lay the foundation for creative problem-solving and innovation as students grow into their middle school years.
At Susquehanna Waldorf School, lessons go beyond textbooks. Whether exploring math through hands-on activities or learning life skills through collaborative projects, students seek to develop critical thinking and empathy. In the early grades, experiential learning is included to build confidence and curiosity, while middle school students take on increasingly complex projects that integrate artistic, academic, and practical skills to foster resilience and independence.
All students, including the middle-schoolers, spend ample time outside, exploring the Susquehanna River and learning through nature walks. Waldorf education emphasizes the value of
connecting with the earth and fostering a sense of wonder and respect for the natural world. Early outdoor experiences evolve into more structured ecological studies in the older grades, deepening students’ understanding of their place in the world and their responsibility to it.
The school also seeks to create an environment where everyone feels like family. Eighth-grade students serve as buddies to younger children, building a sense of mentorship and connection across ages. Older students take on leadership roles, modeling empathy and cooperation for younger peers while preparing for their next educational journey.
In addition to the open house, the school offers private tours. To contact the school about scheduling a tour, visit www .susquehannawaldorf.org.
The Susquehanna Waldorf School, founded in 1987, envisions a community where children love to learn and are inspired to live with purpose, compassion, and joy. The school’s mission is to foster creative, confident, and compassionate learners through an education that nurtures the head, heart, and hands.

“Lucky Stiff” from
from Broadway-style showstoppers to rock tunes, and dance numbers include a kick line, a waltz and a tango.
Based on the 1983 novel “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo,” “Lucky Stiff” features a score by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. The Tony Award-winning writing team also wrote the music and lyrics for “Seussical,” “Once on This Island” and “Ragtime.”
Michael noted that the show is quirky and unpredictable.
“When you’re watching the scenes, pretty much the opposite of what you think might happen is what’s going to happen,” he said.
The cast features middle and high school students, with a group of elementary students as well, who play the role of puppies.
“It’s been really fun working with the little kids,” said Namara. “They’re energetic and fun. They bring out the kid in you. The other day,
pg 1
they inspired us to play hide-and-seek with them during a rehearsal break.”
This is the first show both Namara and Samir have participated in at Columbia, and they’re enjoying the experience.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s been really fun,” Samir said. Namara added, “It’s way more intense than I thought. You need dedication to be here and to do this well, but I’m having fun. I wanted to try out for this show as soon as I heard it was a musical murder-mystery.”
Although the show is a comedy, it does have a message that audiences can take to heart, said Michael, who is performing in his final show with Columbia after starting on stage as a seventh-grader.
“I think the message is, ‘Take risks, because you never know how it will end up,’” he noted. “You only live once.”
Tickets for “Lucky Stiff” will be available at the door. All seating is general admission.

Library event to feature Baldacci
York County Libraries (YCL) will host author David Baldacci during its inaugural “Beyond the Books” event. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York.
Baldacci will speak about his life as a novelist and his writing routine, and he will share humorous stories from the road. He will also sign copies of his April 2025 release “Strangers in Time” during a VIP pre-event reception at 5:30 p.m. and following his presentation.
YCL surveyed library cardholders to learn what author they wanted to hear speak, and individual respondents collectively mentioned Baldacci nearly 50 times.
Baldacci started writing as a child when his mother gave him a lined notebook to write down
his stories. Years later, when he thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she had given him the notebook to keep him quiet. That childhood spark led him to publishing his first novel, “Absolute Power,” in 1996. The next year, it was adapted into a feature film with Clint Eastwood as its director and star.
During his career, Baldacci has published more than 50 novels for adults, including recent titles “Long Shadows,” “Simply Lies,” “The Edge,” and “A Calamity of Souls.” Many of his novels have been adapted for film and television. His books are now published in more than 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with 150 million copies sold worldwide. He has also published seven novels for young readers.
A lifelong Virginian, he
received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, after which he practiced law in Washington, D.C. Baldacci and his family live in Virginia.
A copy of “Strangers in Time” may be ordered during ticket purchase. The books will be available for pickup at the event. Proceeds from the event
will benefit YCL, which provides delivery of free library services and resources for all community members.
To purchase tickets for “Beyond the Books: An Evening with David Baldacci,” visit www.appellcenter.org, call 717-846-1111, or visit the Appell Center box office on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

North Museum to display artworks
The North Museum of Nature and Science, 400 College Ave., Lancaster, will host exhibitions, “Further and Again: Sustainability in Visual Culture” and the Millport Artists Project, in its art gallery through Saturday, May 31.
“Further and Again” asks artists, “When creating with repurposed materials or ideas, how do those materials or ideas carry forward their prior purpose into these new works?” and “Do literal and figurative reuses have the potential to reveal a rich depth of meaning and connection that would otherwise remain undiscovered?” Seven artistsBonnie Mae Carrow, Paula Cahill, Kirstin Fisher, Sheri Hansen, Katherine Hess, Mimi Shapiro, and Dganit Zauberman - explore their relationship to the lifecycle of materials, process, and meaning in their works.
The Millport Artists Project began with a visit by participating artists to the Millport Conservancy in Lititz in the autumn of 2024. This experience produced a combination of
works made in response to their time spent at Millport working indirectly through sketches or en plein air.
Shown alongside each artist’s existing studio works to provide context, some pieces are still in production. Visitors are invited to return often to see the artists’ progress. Participating artists include Doug Anderson, Stacy Caldwell, Sheri Hansen, Marisa Smith Alberts, and Jason Ward.
The art gallery is open to the public during the North Museum’s hours on
Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Also, as part of North Museum’s Adult Learning and Engagement program, works of art from 11 Lancaster County and regional artists will be on display and available for purchase through May 31.
To participate in future gallery exhibits or purchase artwork, contact Sheri Hansen, art gallery and visual arts program coordinator, at SHansen@ NorthMuseum.org.
Participants sought for study
Researchers at Temple University are looking for participants for a study. They are seeking families that drink water from a private well, have a child under the age of 4, and live in specific geographical areas, including locations in southcentral Pennsylvania.
The one-year study will explore the effects of well water on children’s health.
Families can participate from home. They will receive a free whole-home ultraviolet water treatment system. Participants will also receive gift cards and a chance to win a family trip to Hersheypark.
Those who are not eligible may receive a cash reward for referring others. For more information, visit www.wettrial.org, call 215-204-5124, or email wettrial@temple.edu. The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
