very emotional show. You’re going to experience a lot of emotions watching this show.” “Disney’s The Lion King Jr.” features the plot and music of the movie of the same name, explained Alexis Phillips, a junior who plays a lioness, is a member of the ensemble and is one of the choreographers of the show. “It’s a shorter show. There’s no intermission, and it packs everything into a tighter show, which is a little better for young audiences and young actors,” she said.

oald Dahl’s beloved children’s tale, “James and the Giant Peach” will take center stage at Eastern York High School when the Broadway Knights presents its spring musical. “James and the Giant Peach” tells the story of the title character and his adventures. After his parents are killed by a runaway

rhino, James is sent to live with his conniving aunts. Through a series of events, James discovers a giant peach, full of human-sized insects with oversized personalities. As the peach breaks free from its tree, the group embarks on an adventure of epic proportions. “This is a very creative show,” said Kayli Hose, a senior who portrays the ladybug. “It’s whimsical, weird and quirky. “Columbia is going through a major revitalization, new businesses coming into town, restaurants, antiques, breweries, artists,” said Colby Baker, event coordinator with the Merchants Association of Columbia (MAC). “It really is growing. Many of the businesses and residents can agree Columbia is not just a place to visit; it’s a destination.” To help support its mission of promoting Columbia, the MAC is organizing The Columbia Gala … A Roaring Good Time. The 1920s-themed event will be held on Saturday,

March 26, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the National Watch and Clock Museum, 514 Poplar St., Columbia. The evening will feature food, music and more. “Kristen’s Katering will be serving homemade hors d’oeuvres, crab cakes, pineappleglazed ham balls and party pinwheels, just to name a few,” said Michelle McFarland, MAC event coordinator. “She will be serving chocolate-dipped strawberries, assorted homemade cookies and assorted cheesecakes with a speakeasy twist.” Starview Brews will serve beer, and The Renegade Winery will serve wine.
