The Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) will present its annual holiday concert, ”Christmas at the Organ,” on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 4 p.m. at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 S. Coterie Club Sets Meeting
In celebration of Giving Tuesday, the Giant Company recently announced that it donated $60,000 to local Salvation Army Corps and provided 3,000 hams to area hunger relief organizations. The Giant Company is supporting the Salvation Army ’s holiday hunger relief programs by donating $5,000 to 12 Salvation Army locations for a total donation of $60,000. Recipient Salvation Army locations include Boyertown, Carlisle, Chambersburg, East Stroudsburg, Harrisburg , L ancaster, Lebanon, Levittown, Norristown, Philadelphia, and Sunbury in Pennsylvania, as well as the Winchester, Va. location. In addition, to ensure families have a centerpiece dish at their holiday table, the Giant Company is donating 3,000 hams to 20 food banks and pantries across its operating area this month, including the following local hunger relief partners: Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Harrisburg; Chester County Food Bank, Exton; Helping Harvest Food Bank, Reading; and Lancaster County Food Hub, Lancaster. 1719 Museum Plans Candlelit Event The 1719 Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street, will host a candlelit evening of stories and songs on Friday, Jan. 9. Guests will experience traditions passed down through generations among Lancaster County’s Indigenous and Mennonite communities. Tours will run every half hour starting at 4 p.m., with the final tour slot at 8 p.m. Guests will spend 30 minutes in the Lancaster Longhouse and 30 minutes in the Herr House. In the Lancaster Longhouse, musicians will play and tell stories about the Indigenous flute. In the Herr House, guests will hear stories of music and songwriting that were important to Mennonites in the 18th century. A cappella singers

will perform English translations of hymns from the Ausbund, a historic Mennonite hymnal used by the Herr family. In the visitor center, children may use coloring pages and art supplies to create their own fraktur songbook
bookplate. This craft is a Pennsylvania German tradition of making decorative name labels on the inside cover of personal books. Joe on the Go Coffee Co’s mobile café will be on-site with hot drinks and baked goods available for purchase.
The museum store will be open for the event. There is a fee for admission, with a discount for youths ages 6 to 16. Children age 5 and under will receive complimentar y admission. In the case of inclement weather, Stories by Candlelight will take place on Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at 4 p.m. Purchased tickets will apply to the same time slot. Rotary District Sets New Year’s Day Walk Rotary District 7390 will hold a 1-mile walk/run in the spirit of fellowship, service, and peace in Harrisburg on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1. Participants should meet at Soldier’s Grove, 531 Commonwealth Ave., Harrisburg, at noon. The walk will start at 12:30 p.m. One of Rotary International’s major objectives is working toward an international understanding of positive peace. District 7390 is designated as a Peace Builder District and aims to continue Rotary International’s legacy of working toward positive peace on both local and global levels.
