Give a kid a stage and she or he will perform for a day. Teach a kid to dance and she or he will perform for a lifetime.
Give a dancer a cause for which to perform and you’ve got “A Season for Wishes.”
“You focus on teaching proper dance and proper technique, but also how to perform,” said Lisa Kalinowski, the founder and artistic director of Lititz Academy of Dance. “We liken it to dancing from the inside out and dancing with your heart, and that can

be a process. When you do it, it becomes so much more fun and so much more free.”
Lititz Academy of Dance’s
CoJoMotion Dance Company will present this year’s edition of its annual holiday recital, “A Season for Wishes,” at 6 p.m. on Saturday,

Looking to try a new hobby in 2026 and help the planet at the same time? Sign up for the Lancaster County Beekeepers Society’s New Beekeeper Workshop. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy. Doors will open at 7:15 a.m.
“Beekeeping is a deeply rewarding hobby that has a meaningful impact on the environment,” said Kim Fairfield, secretary/communications director for the society. “For some, this can be a lucrative enterprise, but for most hobbyist beekeepers, the reward is in the calming, hands-on care for the bees that improves pollination in our communities, encourages stewardship of nature and promotes individual mindfulness. Of course, there’s also the sweet, golden reward of harvesting your own honey and beeswax!”

Members of the Paloma School of Irish Dance have something for you.
It’s a gift of experience. It’s a gift of culture. It’s a gift of themselves.
“I think there’s a lot more dancing and a lot more music
in (Irish) culture,” said Esther Pujol, the founder and owner of Paloma School of Irish Dance. “I think the show embraces that, embraces that spirit. It’s about communities coming together and celebrating music and dance. The purpose of the show is to spread holiday cheer and bring some

During the workshop, participants will receive all the essential information they need to begin beekeeping.
“We will cover topics that include the biology of bees, how to source your bees, how to set up and position your hives, caring for your bees, beekeeping equipment and costs, pest control, honey extraction and more,” Fairfield shared. “Attendees have the opportunity to speak one-onone with seasoned beekeepers, win door prizes and enter (giveaways) to win hives and other equipment.”
The workshop fee will include lunch and all materials and take-home handouts, as well as

Dec. 13, at Lancaster Mennonite School’s High Fine Arts Center, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Tickets can be purchased prior to the event at https:// tinyurl.com/4xdps66w or at the door the day of the performance.
All proceeds from “A Season for Wishes” will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Philadelphia, Delaware and the Susquehanna Valley.
“I love Christmas, I love dance, and I love this charity,” said Kalinowski. “Seeing the transformation of these kids and what it means to them is amazing. To see them giving it their all is incredible. When the senior girls bring the big check on stage and reveal how much we’ve made, the kids are sobbing and crying. To see what it means to them, I can’t even tell you what it does to my heart.”
Consisting of more than 20 dance routines - from the genres of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hiphop, musical theater and Rockette style - “A Season for Wishes” will take about 150 minutes to perform. During a 20-minute intermission, this year’s
amount raised for MakeA-Wish Foundation will be unveiled.
“It’s the most beautiful, joyous and heartwarming kickoff to the holidays possible,” said Kalinowski. “There’s beautiful dance, beautiful singing and heartwarming stories from families who have been touched by Make-A-Wish. Sometimes it’s pure joy; sometimes there’s not a dry eye in the audience. It’s the gamut of emotions. We always have Make-A-Wish families speak.”
More than 40 dancers from Lititz Academy of Dance’s CoJoMotion Dance Company will perform at “A Season for Wishes.” The performers range in age from 11 to 18 and attend school at Warwick, Manheim Township, Conestoga Valley, Manheim Central, Hempfield, Lancaster Country Day and Lancaster County Christian School, and some are homeschooled.
“They’re my dance daughters,” said Kalinowski. “That’s what I call them. They’re beautiful souls who love what they do and love everything about this show and why they do it. They’re very talented. We have many alumni who go on to be dance majors, dance minors and on college dance teams, professional dancers and dance teachers. We want them to be properly pre -
pared for whatever their dance goals are. We also have doctors, teachers, mommies and spouses we are just as proud of. I am very, very blessed to be close to kids I taught decades ago.”
Organizers of “A Season for Wishes” are hoping to make as much as $50,000 from the fundraiser. In its initial two decades of staging the performance, CoJoMotion Dance Company has generated more than $572,000 for the regional nonprofit.
“What all this money goes to is making wishes come true for kids and families who need them so much,” said Kalinowski. “It’s trips and all kinds of amazing wishes like being a policeman for a day or being a superhero for a day. What an honor to be part of it.”
Located at 620 Paxton Place, Lititz, Lititz Academy of Dance was founded in 2001, a few years before “A Season for Wishes” was established as a way for the organization to give back to the community. While “A Season for Wishes” has evolved into CoJoMotion’s signature event, the dance company also performs four or five other times publicly throughout the year at various venues.

Thomas E. Neely, a veteran of Pennsylvania’s hospitality industry and current CEO of Thomas E. Strauss Inc., was named the recipient of the Patrick Daugherty Leadership Award by the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association (PRLA). The honor was presented at PRLA’s annual Spirit of Hospitality Awards Gala, held on Nov. 10 at the Lancaster Marriott.
The award recognizes a hospitality leader whose service has made a lasting and meaningful impact in strengthening the association and advancing the industry. Neely, who has worked in hospitality since 1987, was lauded for both his strategic leadership, dedication to hospitality education and his lifelong commitment to the values of service and stewardship. He has held many positions on the PRLA board and even served as president of PRLA in 2022.

A graduate of Penn State University’s School of Hospitality Management, Neely has held leadership roles across hotels, resorts, restaurants and destinations. In 2021, he became CEO of Thomas E. Strauss Inc., the parent company of several of Lancaster County’s hospitality brands, including AmishView Inn & Suites, Miller’s Smorgasbord, Plain & Fancy Farm, Smokehouse BBQ & Brews, The Quilt Shop
Celtic traditions to Lancaster County.”
Paloma School of Irish Dance will present its Celtic Christmas Show present to the community at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at Lancaster Mennonite School’s High Fine Arts Center, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. Modestly priced tickets for the school’s first-ever Christmas performance, which will feature traditional and modern Celtic dance and music, can be purchased in advance at www.palomabooster club.com/celtic-christmas -show-2025.html or at the door on the night of the show.
“I think the audience is going to fall in love with Irish dance,” said Pujol. “I hope (the audience members) are pleasantly surprised, like it’s better than they expected. I think there was a generation who was familiar with Riverdance. But I think there’s a younger generation who hasn’t been exposed to it or know what it is.”
The Celtic Christmas Show is a 90-minute performance that will be divided by a 15-minute intermission. Irish music, featuring fiddles, will accompany the 20 dance numbers, but the show will not include singing.
“I think the best way to describe the atmosphere is merry,” said Pujol, a resident of Manheim Township. “Everyone is just so excited and preparing for the performance. I think people are going to feel the
joy of the holiday season from the stage. It’s a chance for the performers to share what they do. They love to perform.”
Nearly 70 individuals from Paloma School of Irish Dance will perform at the Celtic Christmas Show, including college dancers, school-age students and adults. Many of the performers reside in the Manheim Township, Warwick, Conestoga Valley, Garden Spot, Lampeter-Strasburg, Donegal, Penn Manor, Solanco and Lancaster school districts.
The family-oriented troupe also includes many parents, children, siblings and cousins performing together.
“These kids are just everything,” said Pujol. “They’re kids who are actively applying to colleges. Some are on the robotics team. Some are National Honor Society students. Some are football players. Some are very successful in other parts of their lives. They’re just exceptional, exceptional people.”
“When people come up to me at our shows, they say these kids are so talented,” added Pujol. “I’m lucky because I get to work with these kids who are such hard workers.”
A combination of the performing arts and sports, Irish dance demands athleticism, synchronization and repetition to succeed at high levels. Emerging dancers learn collaboration, accountability and problem-solving through their involvement.
“Irish dance still has a lot of its traditional roots,” said Pujol. “Some of the dances we’ll be doing onstage originated hundreds of years ago. A handful of our dancers are actively competitive. A lot of those who will be at the show have competed on the regional, national and world levels. They’re very competitive; they take it seriously. This will kind of be a nice break for them. It’ll be a nice way for them to show their craft.”
Headquartered at 1285 Manheim Pike, Suite 3, Lancaster, Paloma School of Irish Dance was established by Pujol in 2015, partly as a way to stay connected with a discipline she was once involved with as a competitor and partly as a way to honor her roots. There are currently 125 students from all across Lancaster County and beyond enrolled in the school.
“It helps dancers reach their highest levels of dance, reach their potential and have them become good citizens,” said Pujol. “As they’re doing this, they’re learning important life lessons like leadership, teamwork and hard work. The dancing has opened a lot of doors for our dancers, not just in dancing but also in life.”
“It’s such a niche sport,” continued Pujol. “The school has grown now to bigger than it was before COVID. In a way, it has surpassed the goals I set for it. Now, here we are, and I’m enjoying it.”

Fourth-grade students at Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMPH) School in Ephrata honored the saints who have gone before them with a presentation to the school community and families on Oct. 31.
Each student, under the direction of teacher Jennifer Dodson, chose and researched the life of a saint. On Oct. 31, students dressed in costume and told the story of their chosen saint’s life to their schoolmates and the parishioners in attendance. The presentations provided historical infor -
mation about figures such as St. Monica, St. Patrick, St. Juan Diego, and St. Philomena.
OMPH is a Catholic preschool, elementary school, and middle school. It welcomes children of all faiths who seek an education focused on reverence, respect, and responsibility. membership in the Lancaster County Beekeepers Society (LCBS) for 2026.
“This membership gives access to our monthly meetings featuring professional speakers, a members-only monthly newsletter and swag store and monthly hive checks where we gather to examine the LCBS hives and ask questions from our experienced hosts,” Fairfield explained. “Members can also use the club’s 15-frame radial extractor at no fee, sign up to be on our swarm collectors list and have access to a certified kitchen to bottle salable honey for a nominal fee.”
The New Beekeeper Workshop has been a popular public offering of the society for many years, Fairfield said, noting that early registration is recommended since space is limited and the workshop

typically sells out.
Lancaster County Beekeepers Society is a member organization, but the group also focuses on public awareness and services.
“One of the key ways we do this is by providing education for aspiring beekeepers in order to promote and endorse safe, responsible and ethical beekeeping practices that protect the community and the environment,” Fairfield said.
The upcoming year is an important one for the club.
“This year we are particularly excited to be celebrating our 150th anniversary, making us the oldest known beekeeping club in the United States,” she commented. “We have some special celebrations planned for 2026, so it’s a great year to be a part of the organization.”
Community members
can also support the efforts of the group by contacting the club to safely remove a swarm of bees or by sponsoring the society’s upcoming celebrations.
“If you aren’t quite ready to start your own hive, please consider joining LCBS,” Fairfield said. “You don’t have to be a beekeeper to be a member, and this is a great way to learn a lot about honey bees and beekeeping and gain hands-on experience with the club hives. You can also follow us on Facebook at ‘Lancaster County Beekeepers Society’ and Instagram at @LancasterBeekeepers for fun, educational content and to learn about our activities.”
To register for the workshop, visit www.lancaster beekeepers.org/workshop. Email workshop@lancaster beekeepers.org for more information.
