Trunk Or Treat To Return Church Plans Outdoor Event BY ANN MEAD ASH
fter holding a drive-through trick-or-treat alternative in 2020, Faith Church will return to its traditional Trunk or Treat with an all-outdoor event planned for 2021. “We are back to the trunks,” said Michelle Shertzer, who anticipates up to 10 vehicles with decorated trunks will be stationed around the church parking lot this year. Area children and parents who attend are encouraged to dress in costume for the Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, 2124 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster. Children will receive a bag for their treats at the entrance to the event. Masks will be optional this year. The Trunk or Treat will be held rain or shine, with the event moving inside if the weather necessitates that. This year’s seventh annual free event will be based on the theme “I Spy.” “We will have people (decorate) their own trunks, but we will have characters from the Bible that kids will have to find in each trunk,”

Lancaster Catholic Announces Homecoming Court
BY ANN MEAD ASH
According to Dan Steinman, Handi-Vangelism BASIS ministry assistant, the Help for People in Pain seminar given by Tim and Kathy Sheetz addresses any loss that significantly affects a person’s life and outlook. “It’s for people with different types of losses,” Steinman said. “Not necessarily the loss of a spouse or a child. It could be the loss of a job … a divorce or bankruptcy … a (difficult) diagnosis.” See Grief pg 9

Handling Grief
explained Shertzer, who noted that some trunks will involve games as well as treats. Children and their parents will also find plenty of food and a craft station. Free food will include hot dogs, popcorn, baked goods, and beverages. As in the past, the church will accept donations of canned goods for the Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services (CVCCS) Food Pantry. Unexpired nonperishables, such as canned fruits, vegetables, and soups, along with pastas, are welcome. Donations may be made at the first stop under the portico. Shertzer shared that those who attended the 2020 drive-through event expressed appreciation. “Last year, we had a large group,” Shertzer recalled. “Parents (said), ‘Oh, thank you. This is the neatest thing.’ They loved it.” People of all ages are welcome at the event, but organizers ask that attendees refrain from bringing pets. Readers who have questions about the event may call the church at 717-393-5345.
