CV Plans Homecoming Celebration n Friday, Oct. 15, Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) will hold its annual homecoming celebration. The 2021 homecoming queen will be crowned during halftime of the varsity football game against Manheim Central High School, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the school stadium, 2110 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster. Francesca Satiro, who was a member of the 2020 homecoming court, will crown the 2021 queen at the conclusion of the ceremony. The eight 2021 homecoming queen candidates are Kailey Anderson, Annika Bredeman, Cate Chadwick, Casey Kaufhold, Riley Kiel, Delainey Varela-Keen, Jenna Rychener, and Megan Rychener. All candidates will be escorted to the game by their parents. Kailey Anderson is the daughter of David Knapik of Brownstown and Kari Lonie of Brownstown. At school, she is a member of Students Against

Destructive Decisions (SADD), Women’s Liberation Alliance, Power Club, and the Conestoga Valley dance team. She is also the manager of the basketball team. Outside school, she completes volunteer work at Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Following graduation, she plans to attend college with the goal of earning her doctorate degree. Annika Bredeman is the daughter of Justin and Sally Bredeman of Lancaster. At school, she is vice president of the Class of 2022, president of Science National Honor Society (SNHS), and a member of National Honor Society (NHS) and SADD. She runs cross -country and plays lacrosse. Outside school, she is involved in youth group at Keystone Church, and she volunteers at Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services and Smoketown Elementary School. Following graduation, she plans to attend college to major in biology with a pre-med focus. See CVHS pg 7

Following the development of the South Campus of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Author Kristin Manser will give a presentation at the Ephrata Public Library during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“My whole objective is to bring awareness to the subject,” said Kristin Manser, author of the recently published book “The Invisible Bruise: Finding Freedom and Hope After an Emotionally Abusive Relationship, ” a story she wrote about her experience with this form of abuse. “It was really a dark time for me,” she recalled, adding that manipulation and gaslighting can be confusing and hard to explain. Having overcome her experience, Manser now has the goal of bringing
hope to others. “With a topic like this, we need to stand up and attack it and bring it to light,” she said. That is exactly what Manser plans to do with two upcoming author talks. The first will be held at the Ephrata Public Library, 550 S. Reading Road, Ephrata, on Monday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m., and the second will be held at the ELANCO Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28. Manser said it took her a year to write the book, which grew out of journaling and working with a psychologist to dissect her experience.
