The Leola MOMS (Morning Out for Mothers) program at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, is open to all women and children in the community from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, beginning with a welcome brunch on Sept. 10. PAWS and The Dogs’ Den will hold a low-cost vaccine clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Upper Leacock War Memorial Building, 54 W. Main St., Leola. Distemper and rabies vaccinations will be available for cats and dogs. For a three-year rabies vaccination, owners must provide proof of previous rabies vaccination. Microchips will also be available at a discounted price, which includes registration. Breeders will not be serviced. Cash and check will be accepted as payment. Barb’s Battle Benefit will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Ephrata Elks, 170 Akron Road, Ephrata. The catered meal will feature pulled pork and marinated chicken breast, baked potatoes, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, desserts, and beverages. A Chinese auction will be held, and ticket holders will be entered in a drawing for a door prize of an electronic tablet. There is a cost to attend, with a discount for advance purchases. More than 40 people waited at Groffdale Mennonite Church in Leola for a bus to arrive from New York City on July 1. The group consisted of host family members who were eager to meet the 26 Fresh Air children who were scheduled to arrive at 3 p.m. The Sellers family of Denver, Caitlin and Keith and their three children ages 8, 5, and 3, were looking forward to sharing their home in the woods with their assigned child. “We thought it would be a good opportunity to open our world to a child with limited experience,” said Keith, who noted that camping in the backyard was on the family’s agenda. The annual Walk for D.E.S., which will be held in Manheim Township Community Park on Sept. 14, will include a service, a fundraising walk and run with color, and opportunities for those who have lost loved ones to suicide to comfort each other. The event will raise funds for families who have lost loved ones to suicide.

“The show is ‘The Architect,’” said Brandon Nase, director of the 52-member Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) marching band. Nase explained that the drill for the fourmovement program will liken a designer to the questions people encounter and the outside influences that come into play in shaping their own lives. Nase designated two weeks in Students who took part in Conestoga Valley High School July and August to teach the drill to marching band camp, which was held from July 29 to the band members, who met at the Aug. 9, marched, danced, and banded together as the group school from 5 to 9 p.m. from July 29 prepared to present “The Architect” at football games and to Aug. 2.
