LADIES’ LUNCHEON

The Lancaster Christian Women’s Club will host a luncheon at noon on Wednesday, July 10, at the Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Drive, Lititz. Guest speaker Sandy Bartz will speak on “A Lighthouse Lover’s View.” The luncheon will feature “My Lighthouse Collection” by Bartz. The cost for the luncheon is all-inclusive. Lancaster Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (LCDHH) will host a Christmas in July fundraiser event at 3521 Lincoln Highway East, Kinzers, on Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of admission per person includes bingo and other games, a cold lunch buffet, and a Christmas outfit contest. will continue its 2019 Lemonade Concert Series on Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster. The concert will feature the Amy Banks Jazz Quartet. Banks will perform her favorite tunes from the Great American Songbook in collaboration with jazz improvisers from the region. A freewill offering will be accepted.

“The culture of Cavod is friendly, family-oriented, and welcoming,” said Connie Dienner, founder and director of Cavod Academy of the Arts, 665 W. Main St., New Holland, and Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland. “We value each person for the gifts God gave them,” said Dienner, who added that the organization’s new tagline is “Create With Purpose.” Cavod Academy will give area families an opportunity to learn more about the academy if they visit an open house on Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tours of the facility and a chance to meet the instructors. The academy, which is now in its 15th year, offers classes in a variety of disciplines, including dance, gymnastics, music, and theater. Classes are open for children

The Conestoga Herb Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the Upper Leacock Township War Memorial Building, 54 W. Main St., Leola. A demonstration on how to make lemon balm hydrosols will be presented, and the herb chervil will be discussed. In the Cavod Theatre, free food options will include hot dogs, popcorn, soda, and dessert items. Lickity Split will provide free ice cream cones for those who register for classes that day or who have already registered for the fall session, as well as ice cream treats for purchase. For those who register by Wednesday, July 31, and pay for their first month’s tuition, a drawing will be held to win a free month’s tuition at Cavod. Local Squadron Offers Learning And Adventure Squadron 304 of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), which meets regularly at the Lancaster Municipal Airport, is happy to expound on the origins of the organization. “(CAP) started during World War II,” said Broad, who added that the first members were coastal watchers, scanning both the east and west coasts of the U.S. for enemy submarines. CAP, which is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, was officially established in December of 1941. See Local Squadron pg 2

When Lisa Colon’s son, Isreali, went to Army boot camp in 2016, Lisa looked for other area mothers who would understand that experience and offer answers and support. “I have a friend at church whose son was in the Marines, but he was out by then,” said Lisa. When Isreali was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., Lisa found an online group called Fort Riley Mothers of Soldiers made up of women who supported each other. Some of the members of the Fort Riley group were part of National Blue Star Mothers of America Incorporated, a group of mothers who have children currently serving or who are veterans. “(National Blue Star Mothers) was founded in 1942 when someone put an ad in the newspaper calling for moms See Blue Star pg 9
