Buckskin Pride BY ANN MEAD ASH

hen Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) graduates the Class of 2022 at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, June 4 , at 11 a.m., two seniors will be prepared to address members of the administration, the faculty, and the students’ families. Jayden Stokes, daughter of Keith and Karen Stokes of Leola, has titled her speech “The Meaning Behind a Buckskin.” “My speech covers two valuable lessons I learned during my time at CVHS,” said Stokes. “I also (talk about) how my experiences taught me to be a true Buckskin outside the CV community.” In the fall, Stokes plans to attend The George Washington University to major in political science on a pre-law track in hopes of becoming an attorney. said her time at CVHS has been marked by endless opportunities for growth. Gabrielle Rappa is the daughter of Debbie Folk and Richard Rappa of Lancaster. Rappa titled her speech “Failure.” “Failure is inevitable; however, what will separate those who fail and succeed is how we handle failure and learn from mistakes,” said Rappa, who is sworn into the delayed entry program of the United States Space Force (USSF). “I am the first person ever from Lancaster County to be accepted into the USSF. I will most likely be working space systems operations,” Rappa said. Rappa noted that during her time at CVHS, she was inspired by those around her. “I was surrounded and motivated by some of the most hardworking and selfless people, who led me to become the woman I am today,” she stated.

When Wesley Moyer moved to Lancaster County several years ago, he had a special reason to look for a place to live in Akron. Moyer specifically chose the borough because he likes Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park, 221 N. 11th St., Akron. Moyer’s connection to the park is not simply due to an affinity for the outdoors, but rather is tied to his interest in disc golf, a sport he first discovered at summer camp in Pottstown as a teenager.

In 2020, the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Lancaster Relay For Life event was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Last year, Relay For Life of Lancaster County held an abbreviated event. “Everyone was so excited to be in each other’s presence and to be able to be on the track,” recalled Stephanie Delp, ACS senior development manager. “That momentum has carried us forward.” See Relay For Life pg 3
