Seventh Annual Hope For Haiti Benefit Auction Set By Ann Mead Ash

According to Kristen Hertzog, organizer of the seventh annual Hope for Haiti benefit auction, this year’s event will feature something for everyone, including some of the smallest attendees. “We plan on children’s barrel train rides and pony rides this year,” said Hertzog. “The pony rides are new.” This year’s auction, which began when a group of neighbors decided to help fund schools in Haiti, will be held at the Hertzog Homestead, 470 W. Metzler Road, Ephrata, on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 9 a.m. Among the many pieces of merchandise that will go up for bids will be storage sheds, handmade quilts in a variety of sizes, lawn and garden supplies, antiques, collectibles, and furniture. Since the fundraiser is a bring-something-buy-something event, auction

visitors are welcome to bring gently used and new items to sell as well as bid on something to take home. Food that will be available for purchase will include chicken barbecue, salads, sub sandwiches, toasted cheeseburgers, homemade doughnuts, and baked goods, including strawberry pies. Last year, funnel-cake fries were added to the menu. This year’s feature item will be pulled pork sandwiches. Funds raised at the 2019 event will benefit two organizations that help provide education and business training for Haitian small business owners. Paradigm Shift is the education division of Haiti Transformation, which teaches leadership skills and is led by Nelson and Sue Martin. Hope Library is located in Montrouis, Haiti, a town with a population of about 18,000. The library offers books in French, Creole and English and education programs in the See Hope For Haiti pg 3
