It’s the most wonderful time of the year. You probably just sang that in your head. Though the days are get ting shorter and the weather is getting colder, it truly is a magical time of year to live in Manheim. The Christmas sea son always seems to bring out the best in people. Though Manheim has amaz ing nonprofits serving the communi ty as their mission, neighbors helping neighbors is what really makes this town extraordinary.
Once again, nonprofits, businesses, and the community are coming together to make Christmas in Manheim an excep tional holiday celebration. For six days beginning on Thursday, Dec. 1, the town will host events and activities created to enhance your Christmas spirit.
For many people, life is hard right now, so one of the best things about Christ mas in Manheim is that most events are free. Families can come out and enjoy music, entertainment, and activities at no cost to them.
I once heard that light never shines as bright as in the darkness. Maybe that’s why the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree is so special. It is an analogy of com munity. When the switch is flipped and the lights come on, we see that when many individual lights work together, they can make something beautiful. We’re never too insignificant to make a difference in the lives of others, especially at Christ mastime.

Kickoff to Holiday Fun
1stThursday will be hopping from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 1 Not only will vendors line Market Square, but Steven Courtney will set a lively tone for the evening from 5 to 6 p.m.
The Manheim Chamber will reveal the brand-new community Christmas mailbox at 6 p.m. Santa will be on hand for the unveiling. The Manheim community is encouraged to spread Christmas cheer by putting cards and letters in the mailbox throughout the holiday season. The cards will be handed out to residents of area retirement facilities.
Returning this year to Christmas in Manheim is Story Hop. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., families can visit three locations where their host will read holiday stories. Participants should meet in the Mini Park at the corner of East High Street and South Main Street, at 6:30 p.m. In the event of bad weather, the Story Hop will be held in the Old Firehouse at 26 E. High St.
Attention, kids 12 and under: Please pick up a Christmas coloring page dur ing the mailbox unveiling. After you color it and fill out the form, bring it along when you come to see Santa during the Holiday Crossings event at the train station on Saturday, Dec. 3, and Sunday, Dec. 4. Three lucky entrants will be chosen at random to get a $25 gift card. Winners will be announced in the Dec. 14 edition of the Manheim Central Merchandiser.

SANTA 5K RUN & WALK
Get ready for the streets of Manheim to be filled with Santas, elves, and even a few Grinches because the Santa Run is set for Saturday, Dec. 3, at 8:30 a.m.
Walkers are also invited to participate in the 5K that steps off at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church , 48 Market Square.
The Santa Run is open to adult and youth runners and walkers. Partici pants may register at https://runsign up.com/Race/PA/Manheim/Manheim Santarun Preregistration ends on Sunday, Nov. 27, but day-of -event registration is available from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Preregistered individuals are required to check in by 8 a.m., also.

The centerpiece of Christmas in Manheim is the Christmas Tree Lighting in Market Square.
Manheim BIC will host the family-friendly event on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The evening will feature live stage performances, including dancers and Christmas caroling. There will be activities for children, a fun photo booth, and food vendors.
To express gratitude and celebrate the season of giving, the community is invited to donate items for Toys for Tots and Manheim Food Pantry.
The highlight of the evening comes at 6:15 p.m. when the switch is flipped, revealing the radiant community Christmas tree adorned with festive lights.
