St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 N. Main St., Manheim, will hold its Breakfast With Santa on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The free event will begin with a delicious pancake breakfast, followed by a grand entrance from Santa Claus, who will greet guests and hand out goodie bags to the children who visit him. Attendees are welcome to bring cameras and take photos. Once again, St. Paul’s will also sponsor a Children’s Winter Giveaway during the Breakfast With Santa to benefit children in need right in the Manheim area. The giveaway is designed to benefit students who may have run out of school supplies by this point in the school year or who do not have appropriate winter wear for the cooler temperatures. Donations of new hats, scarves, coats, gloves, socks, notebooks, printer paper, crayons, glue, binders, pens, pencils, planners, folders, markers, index cards, and sticky notes are being collected at the church through Friday, Nov. 30, to be available for the giveaway. The Friends of the Manheim Community Library will host the annual Holiday Crossings event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, and from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the historic Manheim Railroad Station, located at 210 S. Charlotte St., Manheim. Admission will be free. There will be a cozy, warm atmosphere inside the train station, which will be decorated to mimic and match the mood of old-fashioned holidays gone by, and a miniature train display will offer a look at what Manheim Borough was like in the 1930s. Visitors may enter to win prize drawings, including a variety of themed giveaway baskets donated by many Manheim businesses, including an original piece from Stiegel Glassworks 1976. Children will have the chance to meet Santa Claus when he visits Holiday Crossings from 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Dec. 1 and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 2. Local crafters will offer an abundance of holiday-themed items, as well as gift ideas in the Holiday Crossings Gift Shop. A Book Nook will feature bargain-priced holiday books suitable for people of all ages. The Trust Trio, a strolling a cappella trio in period costumes, will perform Christmas carols. Hungry attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy homemade goodies from the Holiday Crossings Cozy Café, which will offer an array of baked goods, hearty soup, and other holiday-themed treats. On the train station porch, fresh hand-roasted peanuts will be available to purchase. All proceeds from the Holiday Crossings will benefit the Manheim Community Library. Individuals interested in becoming a member of the Friends of the Manheim Community Library may stop by the Friends’ table at Holiday Crossings. Friends memberships are available for a flat rate and last for one year. Hand-blown Stiegel Glassworks ornaments will also be available for Friends of the Manheim Community Library to purchase. In addition, area residents are invited to drop in at the library, 15 E. High St., from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, for cookies, crafts, and hot cocoa. Snowmen crafts and games have been planned to entertain and engage attendees of all ages, and preregistration is not necessary. For more information, readers may visit www.manheim library.org.

Santas On The Go!
What may have originally sounded like a crazy idea to some has morphed into a tradition that residents of not just Manheim but the greater southcentral Pennsylvania area look forward to each year at the beginning of December: the Santa Run 5K. The Manheim Lions Club will sponsor the annual Santa Run 5K, set to take place on Saturday, Dec. 1. Adult participants will receive a Santa suit, including a jacket, trousers, a hat, a beard, and a belt, while supplies last, and they are encouraged to wear the suit for the race. Youths age 14 and under will pay a lower entry fee that includes a longsleeve T-shirt and a Santa hat. Adult participants may also opt to receive a long-sleeve race shirt instead of the Santa suit when they register. Runners and walkers will step off at 8:30 a.m. from the starting line in Market Square before following a route throughout downtown Manheim. An awards ceremony will follow the race at approximately 9:30 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top male and female finishers in various age groups. Proceeds from the Santa Run 5K will benefit the Manheim Lions Club’s projects in the Manheim community. Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy suitable for a child or teenager age 15 or under for the Toys for Tots collection led by the club. Stiegel Glassworks 1976, located at the rear of 210 S. Charlotte St., Manheim, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. The primary mission of the organization, as stated at https://stiegelglassworks.org, is to preserve the heritage of Manheim Borough. Today, Stiegel Glassworks produces art glass using the traditional methods from the late 1700s in honor of the time when Manheim’s original glass manufactory on South Charlotte Street was renowned throughout the Colonies for its glasswork.

The Women’s Club of Manheim will host its annual Holiday Home Tour from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any of the Women’s Club members or at the following Manheim locations: Shaub’s Dry Cleaning, 22 S. Main St.; Longenecker’s Hardware, 127 Doe Run Road; and Divine Consign, 37 Market Square. The tour will feature seven stops throughout Manheim that will be artfully outfitted with Christmas décor and aesthetics intended to inspire new ideas and celebrate the season. Readers may look for additional details on the featured homes in next week’s edition of the Manheim Central Merchandiser. Proceeds from the home tour will go toward scholarships for girls at Manheim Central High School, Secret Santa gifts for local families in need, and downtown beautification projects, as well as the Women’s Club’s ongoing support of local organizations including the Manheim Community Library, the Manheim Central Food Pantry, The Danner Home, Pleasant View Retirement Community, All Pro Dads, Manheim Historical Society, Aaron’s Acres, Manheim Central High School post prom, and the Manheim Central K-6 Run for Fitness.

Manheim’s 17th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony is set to take place in Manheim Market Square on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Dec. 2. Sponsored by the Manheim Lions Club, this year’s festivities will include performances from dancers at Cricket’s Performing Arts and the Manheim Central High School brass band. Attendees may participate in caroling and visit with Santa Claus. Children are invited to have a photo taken with St. Nick, as well.
