Red berries nestled against shiny green leaves … the warmth of candles glowing in the window … wreaths made of scented pine and adorned with brown cones … these are the signs that the merchants of Intercourse are preparing for the holidays. As the colors of nature are gathered into ornaments, area residents and friends of the community are warmly invited to visit the village and share in the celebration. This year, the Intercourse Merchants Association will hold its 19th annual Holiday Celebration on Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3. The 2016 event will include the annual Children’s Treasure Hunt, which will begin at the Best Western Intercourse Village Inn, 3610 E. Newport Road, on Friday morning and continue all day Friday and Saturday. Front desk personnel at the Village Inn will
help children start on this adventure, which invites participants to solve riddles and win prizes. The Pequea Valley Public Library, located at 31 Center St., has been part of the village celebration for nine years. This year, on Friday afternoon and evening, the library will provide refreshments and activities for all ages. At 4 p.m., hot dogs, water, chips, cookies, and hot cocoa will be served by donation, and a special craft will be available for children to make. At 5:30 p.m., Santa will arrive riding on a fire truck, and at 6 p.m., the annual tree lighting will be held. A family bingo game will follow the tree lighting, and youngsters will receive a free book, made possible by donations from the business community. Past celebrations at the library have attracted as many as 250 visitors. Continued on next page
